Dewalt DC925 Clutch Ring Jammed

I have a new (1 week old) DC-925 hammer drill. The main issue.... the clutch ring is jammed. I am not sure when it happened, or if it was always that way. I have only used it in the drill mode... No hammer function, and no clutch settings. I have drilled maybe 12-15 holes, and that is all. I went to adjust the clutch for driving a screw and the ring was jammed. I have tried to force it. It has the new type of chuck on it so I have been unable to remove it to try and release the ring. I know it is under warranty but I have jobs comming up that I need it for.

If your in hurry & away from the service center all you need to do is just loosen the 4 screw that holds the clutch housing & set it # 1 & back to drill mode couple of times. do not remove clutch if your not sure co'z its got tiny needle bearing on front of the transmission.this is just a temporary fix . it may happened again.

Can't engage drill or hammer settings on de walt dc 925 xrp

Try turning the ring to 2 or 3 and run the drill holding the chuck so the clutch slips then try turning it to drill setting. Also try to do it in different speed settings. If not it sounds like a fault in the gear module. It might just be a metal clip just under the clip in side. Undo the 4 screws holding the gearbox onto the housing and carefully remove it, you might see the fault or loads of dirt that needs cleaning. Dewalt dc925 drill, the chuck jaws appear to be jammed tight shut and will not open. any ideas?

Hi, soak the chuck in crc overnight then put the drill in low speed and reverse. Hold the chuck by hand or with multi grips and pull the trigger. Hope this helps, regards Phil.

Motor works and spins but as soon as the drill touches the wall drill stops but motor keeps going.

Check the speed switch on top - sometimes it doesn't fully seat in the 1 or 2 position. Switch it to the opposite setting, run it, then switch back, until it seats properly. Also check the clutch control ring for the same issue.

What are the numbers around chuck used for?

They refer to the relative tightness of the adjustable built in clutch. The lower the number, the less torque is applied before the clutch starts to slip. At the drill image on the ring, there is no slippage.

Why would you want such a thing??? Well because you don't want to strip a screw yo are installing or possibly break it. Whether you are putting small screws into soft wood or you are installing "TapCons" in concrete, this is a very good feature to have on your DeWalt or other fine battery powered device.

Clutch slips reguardless of setting, in both drill and hammer mode. won't drill. is this a transmittion problem?

You can get the part replaced with metal gearing and clutch and that shouldn't happen again, but the cost may not be worth it

I have a dewalt dc925 combi drill the chuck keep slipping and also the setting ring is hard to adjust . What can i do top solve this?

Probably needs a new transmission. They cost about $34 plus shipping. Easy to fix. Just remove the four torx screws from the metal (gray in color) part $of the drill. Then pull it apart. The transmission comes in a one piece cassette. Insert it, and put the front back on and tighten the screws.

I have an 18v dewalt hammer drill dc925 and cant get it on the hammer setting?

It's one of the settings on the clutch ring. Or do you mean it won't turn there?

Cannot engage hammer action

the problem is the metal part of the clutch that meets the pin from the transmission. remove the 4 screw from the clutch & check if the the inside of the clutch & the trans pin meets. all you can do is to push back the metal parts of the clutch setting.
