Question about Garmin StreetPilot C330 GPS Receiver
The dreaded screen freeze happened on my C320 unit. As per the manual, I reset the unit. However, I am unable to power back up again. Pressing the power button has no effect. I tried connecting the unit to my laptop through USB thinking the battery might need recharging. However, the unit still does not respond. Its just dead!! Any suggestions??
If the unit is out of warranty, you have nothing to loose by opening it.
If you open the unit, look for its battery. I cannot remember if the battery is soldered in or is on contact connectors. If the battery is solder connected you will need a small soldering iron, the skills, and some proper tools.
Disconnect the battery on one side, and wait about 30 seconds. Now connect (solder) the battery back again. This will make it do a hard re-start.
If the unit is still failing, or does not start, check the battery with a DVM to see if it is at the proper voltage. Read the label on the battery to know the voltage.
It is also possible that there is a hardware failure. Inside many of these models there is an inverter board. Sometimes this inverter board can fail, and need to be replaced. The cost of the board for this model is about 50% of the cost of a new model unit. Also, if the inverter board has failed, you would need to be able to do some tests to know if there are other faults. This you cannot do without the proper set-ups, service information, and training.
