Reliable Dehumidifier Manufacturers

What is a good quality and reliable dehumidifier manufacturer?

STOP! The LG model LHD45EL that was recommended, may leave you with hundreds of dollars of water damage. We purchased this same model and the bucket full function failed on several occassions during actual use and testing. In reality, in caused over $437 dollars in damage to our laminate flooring. I have since found other users on the internet who also have had problems of the bucket full function not working, thus causing the bucket to overflow and spill water onto the surface on which it sits. I would NOT recommend this model or this brand for that matter.

I too am looking for a reliable dehumidifier. I bought an LG dehumidifier and it does not shut off when the water reservoir is full, thereby leaking all over the basement floor. I am returning it. I have an old Hampton Bay dehumidifier that the previous homeowner left me, and it works great. I will not be buying LG products in the future.

For an average basement I like the LHD45EL. It is quiet and also has an Energy Star rating which will make it easier on your electric bill. One other nice thing is LG backs this model with a 5 year warranty. A local store that I have seen carry this model is Home Depot and it usually runs aroun $179.

Here is a link with information on this model:

What does an A-5 error code on a Frigidare dehumidifier mean, and how do I correct it

Good Afternoon Friend, this is Z. I am happy to assist you!

I show that the correct error code your Frigidaire dehumidifier is receiving is "AS". Typically, it means that your dehumidifier is experiencing a sensor failure. I show there aren't any manufacturer replacement parts available for your dehumidifier. This could be because it is a smaller appliance and repairs are often more costly than the actual appliance replacement. Is your dehumidifier still in warranty? If so, you might want to reach out directly to the manufacturer to determine the coverage on your dehumidifier and the procedures to any potential remedy in that regard. Best of luck!

Icing up on a dehumidifier

The gas can pass through the pipework slowly by osmosis especially after several years use. However, check fans, heat exchangers etc first before condemning unit.

What volt extension cord should I use with this unit? Also, is volts the same as amps?

Voltage and amperage are two different things. Most dehumidifier manufacturers do not recommend the use of an extension cord (check your Owners Manual). However, if you were to use one, it should not be longer than 6 feet and should be a minimum of 14 gauge wire with a ground.

Hope this helps and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Freon leak

This is NOT a member of the family. The sealed system repair cost (to replace the evaporator) would exceed the price of a replacement dehumidifier. (even if it is in warranty, most all manufacturers will replace it rather than do a sealed system repair on it) Buy a new one.

Dehumidifier only two years old now doesn't extract water from air since I just started it up again for the summer.

Problem is that you bought a dehumidifier made by the Korean/Chinese manufacturer LG.
Search the web and you will find that you are just one of many whose dehumidifier worked the first year but now draws no water out of the air even though it makes all the right fan and compressor noises.
Most common problem is that all the Freon refrigerant escaped, apparently because the copper tubing cracked and leaked. Penguins beware, there goes the Ozone Hole!
It cost me $14 and an afternoon of investigation and testing of my LG 504EL dehumidifier to figure this out. The fix-it web site "Just Answers" said that it wasn't worth fixing after I described all the symptoms. Tomorrow I will go to the local LG fix-it shop and try to get a replacement to tide me over until I can find a reliable dehumidifier.
Sadly, last Fall I took my 25 year old Westinghouse (made in America) dehumidifier to the dump. Even though it needed me to tune it up every year or two, at least I could fix it and it kept on working for 25 years.
Good luck!

I have a Kenmore 54701 dehumidfier, less than 2 year old. the power is on, a fan seems to be running, I no longer hear a compressor turn and, and no water is collected?

The sealed system of the Kenmore 54701 dehumidifier is warranted (Parts & Labor) by Sears for five (5) years. Since the fan in your unit runs but the compressor doesn't, I suggest that you return it to Sears and request (demand) a new replacement unit under their warranty. I say "demand" because Sears will undoubtedly tell you that the problem is due to some "other" component which is not covered, and will charge you mega-bucks to repair it. Been there - - done that.

FYI, read the (very low) customer reviews of these units on Sears website and you'll see you're not alone in your experience with Sears' inferior quality units.

Above all, do NOT pay to have it repaired. That money is better spent on the purchase of a far more reliable brand of dehumidifier - - (which will most likely cost less that what you paid for the Sears unit).

Will not take moisture out of room.

If your dehumidifier has a filter make sure you clean it with warm water and mild detergent. Manufacturers recommend that you do this every 2 weeks. The main issue is most likely your coil is dirty. Usually you can remove the front cover and brush the coils off wth a small brush. If your dehumidifier didnt come with one you an clean it with a toothbrush. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
