Oh dear my consol is foobarred, i burnt the disc like i have with the loads of others ive done, everything was fine, stuck the disc in and then it asked to update, ekk i dont like it when it asks to do that but i went ahead anyway and bugger me it stopped in the middle of the update giving the reason that it cannot read the disc, now when i turn the 360 on all i get is a msg that it;s applying the update then it stops and says the above msg. I have looked at the M$ site and got the sysatem update that have on there, ive burnt it to dvd and cd and stuck it on a pen drive, and each time it trys to update but stops and says it cannot read the update. Ive also mounted the iso for need for speed and extracted the system update from that and did the above and still again it fails. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them and if so did they get to fix it ? Anyone with any info could you plese let me know as the kids are going to kill me when they find out EEEkkkkk, sorry for the long post, fingers crossed someone has the answer cheers and Merry Christmas, Wolf
Looked at that Link to the site you gave me, the guide does not seem to cover my problem, plus you have to pay for it which is not really an option at this time of year.
Repair shop will be a last resort as i prefer to find out the info and fix it my self if possible
thanks all the same

is it on playstation 2? if it is, look at the back of the disc. You might have some scratches on the back. If there is, tough luck, because i haven't found any good solutions to disk scratches. This also works with other console disks. Oh, and one more thing.if there aren't any scratches check the disc area of the console.it may be chipped, scratched, or broken.
Well, if it's not a problem with the console, it must be the Black Ops CD. Try cleaning the disc, and trying again. (One way to clean the disc is to use a clean cotton cloth) If cleaning the disc doesn't help, it could be because there's some kind of scratch on the CD. If that's the case, you may want to consider buying a new black ops. If you still have the receipt, you could trade it in for a new CD.
Holding the sync button on the console as per other forums didnt work initially, so did it loads of times:
Had the disc loaded that caused problem, held sync button on the console and powered off and on still holding the button on.
Powered off each time the error screen came back up while all the time holding the sync button on the sixth attempt it went past error screen and up to dashboard.
I went to load disc again and it asked me for update again so chanced it, this time it extracted update ok and then rebooted to dashboard ok.
Console now running fine, oh and Assassins Creed was the game that caused the initial update error, and Assassins Creed was the disc that I used in the multiple reboots which eventually cleared update fault.
Hope this helps as no other info on web that I could find.
If you have this error it can be because the receptors on the back of the drive are overheating, to fix it you need to stop the heat build up, you can do this yourself or send it in.
It sounds like the servo motor is either dead or has a bad connection somewhere. Either way, this a minor repair that can be done at "GameStop" or another local place that does minor PS repairs.
This is a dirty or bad bluray drive which seems to be the same as the 3 rings of death for the 360..
Buy a cd laser cleaner and try that if it does not work your laser diode is bad and a new laser is 50$ via ebay.. if you dont want to get to technical then you can buy a drive for 120ish and switch them out.
Sony will charge 150$ + to fix it other then that there is no way around it.. and I believe you need a proof of purchase to get the warranty. I really hope the cd cleaner works but if not then your stuck...
You can sell it on ebay and if its a 60gb you can get about 200 for it... then buy a like new 40gb ps3 for 300ish I have seen just consoles sell at 290 incl shipping. Best of luck!
If you are happy please feel free to rate me THANKS!
