Question about Audio & Video Receivers

Dear Tech, my Dual XDMR 7700 stereo/cd player is giving me a hay day. When I press the open button on the faceplate, the faceplate drops down and goes right back up. I can't even load a cd in to the player....thanks for any input. Tom Martin Van Wert, Ohio

Most of the time these radios with the displays that move up/down have a ribbon cable that may go bad and cause funny types of problems. I can not say for certain what is causing your problem withour putting it on a test bench and troubleshooting it with the proper equipment. It may also be a swtich the detects when the display has reached its open position. If the switch is bad, it may just close right back up again.

But the ribbon cable is a good start, since it gets some wear and tear every time you turn on the radio.

Remove the face plate and clean the contacts on both the head and the radio. It sounds like a bad connection, The base and head use serial data to talk to each other(control). If one of these connections are bad the unit will not work properly.

Stereo shut down

Did you check fuse block in the car as well as the stereo fuses?

When the face plate is down does that model have any indicator lights in the rest of the deck to see if it is getting power? My old ken wood used to have a red light that blinked behind the faceplate.

Open the slot by pressing the up-arrow button at the upper-left corner of the faceplate. The control panel will then slide down and the slot appears. Refer to page 11 of the manual.

I just got a second hand TIMEX Indiglo Dual Alarm radio. No instructions included on how to set up the alarm, no serial # either. Any help?

You can try the Timex site here. If your clock is on the drop-down list, you can download the manual. If it's not listed, don't be afraid to experiment by pressing all the buttons until you find out which does what. You can't hurt the clock by pressing the buttons, that's what they're for.

Sorry I can't give you detailed instructions, but maybe this has helped. Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!

Sansui G-7700 digital display

Funny that you just posted. On Monday, I dropped off my G-7700 at The Audio Lab in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. http://www.theaudiolab.com/

As soon as I walked in the place I knew I was at the right spot. They service and sell some really high-end vintage units as well as carry brand new high-end audio equipment. $60/hr for service work. As a gauge, my G-7700 took 2hrs to do a complete overhaul, which included replacing some pots, re-soldering cold joints, calibrating the tuner and other components. i thought it worked really well before!

Experienced, knowledgeable, efficient.

Give them a call and ship your G-7700 to them. It's worth it.

CD jammed inside player

Remover the player's cover. That will give you access to the player's internals and therefore also the CDs. That is the only way to go about a problem like the one you are facing.

Disconnect the player from the mains supply before doing this.

Good luck.

I have a stanton-vestax cd-11 dual cd player, and was wondering how to get a cd to play on it. I put one in, turned the player on, pushed all the buttons and nothing happened. how does it work?

I have had one of these for many years: Switch it on, you must make sure the two transit screws at the back of each deck are fully unscrewed and loose, let the machine displays settle down, then insert a CD, then press the 'reset' button. There is a built-in delay of about 11 seconds before the deck begins to read. After this the machine should then display the first track number, and pressing the big red button will start play.

Pressing the 'reset' button again stops playback and the CD spins down, but if you leave the CD in there it will eventually re-index and cue up again. This feature is to enable fast, one-button CD changing and it works very well in practice, as the 11 second delay is enough time to take one CD out and get another in there before it tries to read it again.

To stop playback just press the 'reset' button (this is the most used button!) and take out the CD. After the delay, the machine will try to read a CD as normal, but display 'no CD' on the display. There is no stop button, as this unit was designed for continuous use in a club or disco.

Hope this helps. :)
