Message Waiting Indicator Your phone's message waiting indicator is either a light or special tone that alerts you when you have voice mail.

Occasionally, the message waiting indicator may be out of sync with your mailbox. In that case, the indicator light or tone is ON but there are no messages waiting, or the indicator light or tone is OFF when there are new messages waiting.

To get the message indicator back in sync

1. Save or delete all new messages
2. Hang up.
3. If the message indicator does not go out or stop within a few minutes, there may be a problem, and you should contact Verizon.
4. If the message indicator does go out or stop, call your own number and leave a message
5. Hang up and wait
6. If the indicator light or tone does not come on within a few minutes, there may be a problem, and you should contact the vender.

Your description of your problem is rather brief. Trying to read between the lines, I gather several questions:
Why is it when I try to call a certain number it goes strictly to their voicemail?
When somebody tries to call my number, it directly goes to my voicemail?
The general reason a call goes directly to voicemail is that your phone is off or in the area of limited or no cellular service. Normally if you are on the phone when someone calls, the phone notifies you that a call is waiting. However if your phone is off or in a fringe area or where there is poor cellular service such as in a large building, subway system or the like, calls to your phone are routed directly to voicemail.
The same applies if you call someone else. If there is no cell service to their phone or their phone is off, your call to them is routed directly to voicemail. You'll probably find this problem more common in rural areas where the cellular services poor, or in a large city with tall buildings that block cell signals such as in New York City.

Most SmartPhones also have the ability to send an inbound phone call directly to voicemail. This can happen several ways.
1. When the phone rings, and the user does not wish to receive the call, depending on the cellular operating system (iPhone, Android), the user may make a sliding motion on their touchscreen sending the call directly to voicemail. I do this a lot with unfamiliar numbers that are often telemarketers. Anybody that really wishes to get a hold of me will leave a voicemail message and I'll return their call.
2. Calls originating from contacts saved in your contact list may also be sent directly to voicemail. I have saved literally hundreds of phone numbers of telemarketers under multiple "telemarketer" contacts in my cell phone and sent them all directly to voicemail so I do not see bothered if they continue calling.

The stuttered dialtone that your getting to indicate that you have a message is provided from your telco provider.The message waiting light on the system is used by either the internal voicemail with the system or by the receptionist.The message waiting light will not work with telco provided voicemail.

If your phone line has voicemail service from your phone company, that's where you'll find your message. The voicemail indicator on the phone is there to let you know there are waiting messages that you should pick up. Otherwise you won't know that until you go to make a call and hear the stutter (interrupted) dialtone the phone company sends you when you have messages. Follow whatever procedure your phone company gave you to pick up your messages.

This feature is country dependent and may not
appear in some countries.
If you have subscribed to the voicemail service
from your local service provider, icon turns
on when you have a new message in your
mailbox. After you have accessed to all the new
messages, icon will turn off automatically. If
you find that the message waiting indication
cannot be turned off by the network, you can
still turn off the message waiting indication with
your phone by the following step :

In idle mode, if voice mail waiting icon is on,
long press the redial key to turn off the voice mail waiting
icon.
Once you choose to delete the message waiting
indication, all the other handsets registered to
the same base station will turn off the message
waiting indication accordingly.

There is no History button that I know of ~ on the system...

But - the message waiting indicator is not working?
Ok, try this to fix the message waiting... leave a voicemail for yourself or get someone to leave a message. FEATURE 1 and your extension...

-> if the light is Not flashing try FEATURE #806 this shuts off static time and date, for some reason this can shut off the message waiting indicator.

The best thing I've been able to find to fix this is to call customer service and have them reset your voicemail. After they reset it, power your phone off, remove the battery, press the power button (discharge any residual voltage). Reinsert the battery, power the phone on and it should take care of it. If this doesn't get rid of the icon, your service provider is having a glitch in the network notifier for voicemail.

After they reset your voicemail, you will have to set it up again. Pin code, greeting, etc. Hope this helps. It is a frequent problem and this is the only way I know of to resolve it because voicemail is stored on the network, not the phone. The network notifies you when you have one in their system waiting for you.

I have a jwin jt-p590 and I have no idea how to use the voicemail/answer machine it's equipped with. Is there some sort of button scheme I'm supposed to press. I threw away the manual to it. Sorry I don't have an answer for your problem, but you seem pretty witty from the answers I saw you give to other ppl. I'd really appreciate it if you could help me out.
