It doesn't look like this drive is supported for Mac use. Only DOS drivers are provided and owners manual didn't indicate it. I found the support section for an hm160jc which should be the correct model number for your hard drive according to Samsungs support website. If you have any additional questions you should contact Samsungs support website. Here is a link to the support area for your hard drive:

XP cannot be installed natively on an SATA disk without the appropriate driver which must be loaded during the install - an extremely complicated maneuver. The best way to deal with that is to just add the new SATA hard disk: install XP on the PATA and use the new SATA for your files as a separate partition. The adapter cable can be bought for about $5 from the same shop as the hdd.
All the other modifications are just fine - just remember , the RAM will not be fully recognized and used because of the limitations of the 32bit XP.

The jumper on the back of the drive is probably in the wrong spot. Look at where the jumper is on your current drive. I ran into this working the other way, taking a mac drive & formatting for windows. Had to remove the jumper completely & then it was seen as a normal drive. Mac setup is alot different then just tossing a drive in. For personal assistance I reccomend you to my Mac guy,Kevin. Email; him at shox88@hotmail.com , I'm positive he can get you straight quick. Just tell him Pete sent ya.

Not unless that dell is running a Mac OS.

Sorry about that!

2000 or XP does not see Western Digital 160 GB Ide

Hi,

Seems that the Hard disk is formatted with MAC format and not Dos/Windows.

Connect the hard disk to Mac machine and check the type of filesystem of drives. If they are not NTFS/FAT then it will not be read by windows operating systems.

You need to format the drives with FAT32 or NTFS to get it read by Windows OS, you can do this in MAC machine as well.

Hope it resolves your issue.
Thanks.

"-36" error message using Acomdata External Hard Drive

Have you tried taking the files off of the drive and repartitioning and reformatting the drive?
How is the drive formatted? Fat? Fat32 or HPFS? What version of Mac OS are you running? It is possible, depending on the version of the OS and the driver for the OS that it can have problems with drives that have partitions larger than 128 GB. It is also a bios limitation with older systems.
Look to see if there is an updated driver for the OS X version you are running.
Also check in the Disk Utility to see how the drive is partitioned and formatted. If it is going to be a Mac only drive, partition and format it as HPFS. If it is a drive that you will use in Windows as well, use Fat 32 and limit the partitions to 128 GB or less.

You could also try a newer version of OS X like Tiger or Leopard. They are both more stable than older versions and have better support for devices.

Cheers and good luck.

Best

How to detect two IDE drives with same brand

You need to set one of the drives to be 'master' and the other to be 'slave'.
This is done by positioning jumpers on the back of the harddrives.
Pretty sure that on the drives is explained somewhere how to position the jumper, for several options.

Good luck,
Please post some feedback.

Hello there,
First things first:
1) Did you enable on BIOS all USB ports?
2) Install all USB drivers?
3) then use another port USB 2.0
3) it is suppose to recognize it now.
