I have purchased an a200 satellite toshiba laptop off a good friend but there seems to be a problem. it appears his sister has put a password in bios and im screwed. he cant find proof of purchase.. am i stuck with a silver paper weight? pls help
Try this link for a bios flash. If it doesn't work, then you will need to contact Toshiba support for clearing the bios password, or get her to remember/give it to you. Your other option is replace the motherboard, but if you do that I'd ask for some money back.

you have to open the memory cover and remove the two RAM s, after that remove a black or whit plastic film depending on your model, you will loacte for B500 marqued ( XXX ) or J1 you have at least short the two point with a flat screwdriver and put the upper memory and power on the laptop will holding the screew driver till you see the toshiba screen, if it doen't work just try again. it works 100%
go into the bios ( F2 or Delete or which ever key it states when the computer starts up to get into the bios )
Ensure that the FN key is not disabled in the bios, if it is re enable it and try it again.
Otherwise I would call toshiba and see if the warranty covers it still if not you may have to get them to repair it or call around laptop shops to get them to look at it - may require to replace the keyboard .
it seems that some files are still there and it is not allowing IE to work properly.
try to install Firefox, opera or avant browser and try to browse.
or in other case try to ping from command prompt
and check the IE properties.
