I have the exact same problem. The camera worked great then a minute later I was going to show an image to a family member and I pressed on the power button and there was no power at all. I changed the batteries to a fresh set and still no power. Could the little cmos battery go bad? Anyone have an idea? Scott

Hey helentt,
I would try cleaning the battery contacts. If this doesn't work I would have it looked at by an authorized service technician. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Here's the support site url for your camera:-

http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_a_series/powershot_a430#DriversAndSoftware (this is for XP)

I see that there are no firmware upgrades so can only think of one thing which may help.
It may have failed but using the menu options on your camera try a reset. It may sort things out.

If you're not sure how to get there, you should be able to download a manual from there to guide you.

If it has had it, and it is quite old, you can try for a second hand camera (ebay or high street) But nearly all new budget digital cameras should meet your needs, but here's a url to a review site:-

http://www.steves-digicams.com/

Failing that, go for a brand you know like Canon, Sony, Fuji, Nikon etc.

Finally, My wife just got a Fuji finepix Av120, it should be about $60 in America, its a 12MPix camera and has loads of features including a "Panaromic Photo" feature, straight forward to use and score 84% in a professional review.

Canon Powershop A430 Digital Camera wont work with new batteries. I tried switching and used both alkaline and some regular ones but it keeps saying the batteries are low. How can I fix this?

Hi,
If the camera has a lens that extends when you power-on, it may have failed to park completely when power went off, due to the weak battery.

Gently press on the front of the lens barrel to attempt to seat the lens.
Then (with a good battery) turn-on the camera.

If you are currently using the NiMH AA rechargeable batteries, I would suggest you try standard Alkaline AA batteries. They have a bit more voltage than the NiMH and it might make a difference in this case.

If that does not work, you should phone Canon Service and see if they have any suggestions.
I am sure they have encountered this problem before.

Hope this helps,

Canon powershot A430 says batteries need changing constantly

Are you still using alkaline batteries? If so, alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pictures in a digital camera. Some may also have reached their shelf life, and though right out of the package may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras that use AA's for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. If you read the camera's instruction manual concerning batteries, you may see the same recommendation. Keep in mind rechargeable NiMH batteries will save you money in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may be angry with yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

Canon Powershot A430 - can i charge batteries through AC

The A430 is a camera, not a battery charger. If you want to use rechargeable batteries then you must use a separate charger. Battery chargers should be available at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store.

CANON PowerShot A430 4.0mp Digital Camera eating batteries

The A430 is a 2 battery camera, and is known for being power hungry. Alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pictures in a digital camera (especially a 2 battery camera). Lithiums can also have problems. Some may also have reached their shelf life, and though right out of the package may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. If you read the camera's instruction manual concerning batteries, you may see the same recommendation. Modern NiMH batteries have over five times the energy concentration of the average alkaline (yep over five times more power!).

Even after putting new batteries it gives message"change the batteries"

Some may have reached their shelf life, and though brand new, may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Retailers sell these for around $7 for a package of four (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.
