I would like to have an answer to my original problems with an ER-A440 Sharp Cash Register.
I'm very disappointed that no one can help me.
I've never used a site like this & won't use it again. It seems to me that an expert should be able to help me.

trying to program the tax tables onto a Sharp ER-440. I have plotted out the rates in exel and compared them to the example in the manual it does't make ann sense. A simple hand held calulator can do the task but not the Cash register without having a programming class????

Put the key in program 2
Press the Tax or VAT key
Enter a number for this tax rate, here in Ontario, Canada we have GST and PST so Tax1 can be GST and 2 can be PST.
Press the multiplication key (Circled X)
Enter the tax rate in %, 4% key in 4
Press multiplication Key
Enter the lowest taxable amount in cents, $.12 would be keyed in as 12
Press the TL key to finalize programming.

The register should print our a report showing you the changes you made.

This is all described on page 26 of your manual.

I have not found a way to reset the register to factory defaults in the manual.

Hi-

Just to verify if I understand the issue, so the thing is that you already have it working but you can't configure the program to make it work the way you want it, right? chances are application overrides the settings of your Sharp cash register, if you are using a special software then i think that's the 2nd thing that you need to check on, since this is the only application or program where you can change the settings and another thing is that you nay need to change some settings/enter codes on the software itself. if you have already called SHARP regarding this, second option is to call your application vendor.

Keep us posted for other details so that we can actually figure this out, thanks!

1. Perhaps you received solutions about a fax machine because you put your question in the fax machines category.

2. Why are you getting mad at people? If it can't be done, it can't be done plain and simple. Getting mad at the messenger doesn't help; get mad at Sharp or, perhaps the person that purchased the cash register that couldn't do what you needed it to do.

I know what I'm about to say is irrelevant, but you have my sympathy. I have a cash register at my shop, that I've had for three years and still cannot program. For Pete's sake, I can program computers and tear laptops completely apart and make them work, but I can't program an overgrown calculator. I am now using Quickbooks for calculating and receipts and the register for money storage. I hope someone can help with this, and if you find any "easy bake" cash registers please let me know.

After reading the manual (what a headache), there is no automatic setting where you just hit the total key and the sales tax is automatically calculated into the sale. You will have to program the tax percentage into a tax key, then the key sequence after entering the item prices will be; sub total, tax key, then total. As far as clearing the machine, there is no automatic reset, you will have to override and reprogram any preprogramed key with the new settings you want. It's complicated, and there's no simple solution, personally, I would see if there is a service tech in your area and have he/she program the machine. It would save time and possibly costly mistakes at your business.

E32 is usually an indication that the server or cashier has not been signed on. To resolve; 1) Press the clear button. I have an error code coming up E32. I have pressed the clear button but it is not clearing. I can not enter anything under any department.

Hi Skitso,
The problem is listed as afax machine error but the error code quoted seems more to be that of an error on a cash register.
If this is correct and it is a Sharp cash register the error is telling you that you need to enter your clerk or cashier ID.
For ease of reply try pressing the "1" and then the CLERK ID key.
Regards
Gavin.

I bought a Sharp XE A102 cash register at a rummage sale only to find out that there is not an instructaion book in the like new box! I need to know how to program the thing ASAP as I'm leaving town with...

Not sure if this will help, XE-A101
intialize(clear) mode switch to REG and plug in.

Make sure battery and paper in the machine.

MODE TO PROGRAM:

TIME: enter 4 digit military time such as 8 AM would be 0800
3:00 PM would be 1500, etc press the #sbtl key time is in

DATE: Enter month date and year in 6 digits such as: March 15 2002 would be 0315202 depress the # sbtl date is in.

TAX RATE: 9 # SBTL TAX RATE SUCH AS 1 @ tm
70000 @/TM 10 CA/TEND.

YOU HAVE MADE 7 % TAX IN DEPARTMENTS 1 - 4
5 - 8 ARE NON TAX. THSI CAN BE CHANGED BUT MAY
GET YOU GOING . GO TO TO REG MODE AND SEE IF IT WORKS. AS I SAY THIE IS XE 101 MAY NOT BE THE SAME FOR 102.

Sharp cash register dont know what the keys are

You should be able to go to Sharp support and search your model number for a copy of the operator's manual. If it's an older model send me the model number and I'll look for one. Good luck and God bless.
