Question about Televison & Video

Samsung HLN617W TV comes on with a bluish picture. If it were a tube type set, I would say it had a bad picture tube.

This is not a rear projection TV . There aren't any tubes in it. It is a DLP TV with
a light engine and other circuit boards. Sus
pect this problem to be a bad DMD assy which
is part of the light engine but cannot prove
it. Cost of this part is $577.00.

Repeat of the same comments. Last response
was a vertical repair. These type of sets
do not have a horizontal or vertical circuit
as in other type of TVs. Give me something
that makes sense, or forget it!

Picture is very good ,if I can get rid of the
bluish tinge to all pictures. Thanks, Bobr TV man

There are 4 main components in the system: the DMD chip, color wheel, light source, and optics. Light from the lamp passes through a color wheel filter and into the DMD chip which will switch its mirrors on or off in relation to the color reflecting off them, producing an image.
DLP (Digital Light Processing) technology utilizes a small Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) to tilt more than 1.3 million micromirrors-each of them less than the width of a human hair-toward (ON) or away from (OFF) the light source inside the DLP. This process creates light or dark pixels on the face of the projection screen. The light then filters to a color wheel, which rotates 120 times per second, producing the correct hue. Each mirror can turn on or off several thousands of times per second resulting in a technology that can reproduce up to 1024 shades of gray. In short, the gradations in color that make DLP images stand-out are the result of color filters backlit by just the right intensity of white light.

If it were the DMD then all the colors would be off and the picture would be fuzzy. Sounds to me like the color wheel is spending more time on the blue segment or the color wheel and the DMD are out of sync. In my opinion this is most likely cause by the circuitry driving the DMD and the color wheel and not by those components themselves.

There may be possiblity of retrace line... During the time the electron beam is returning from right to left at the end of a line and bottom to top (over the course of multiple lines), it is supposed to be result in no visible light on the screen. However, a number of faults can result in visible retrace lines. The appearance will likely be a general reduction in contrast from the visible horizontal retrace on every scan line and two dozen or so diagonal lines lines (lower left to upper right) resulting from the vertical retrace. The retrace lines may be either white or gray (possibly with a slight color tint due to unequal settings of the color adjustments) or a primary color - red, green, or blue. Anything in between is also possible but less likely.

    try this also

adjust screen pot not focus pot. Make sure you are turning blue screen pot (there are 3 focus pots and 3 screen pots) and do it slowly. If you turn it too much, it will affect your grayscale.

1. What is wrong with the video.
A: Vertical deflection system has failed. The repair usually involves replacing the vertical output module. The cost is nominal, such as $150; but if the tech comes to your home, a service call will be added to the charge.

2. Is it worth fixing it? Do you know how much it will cost (as the set is huge and heavy, I have to call the technician home to take a look at it).
A: Yes, it is a fine set and has more life left in it; however, it is a marginal matter since any set of this age is likely, from a statistical point of view, to have other failures around the corner. So you must weigh in your decision making now much you like the set, how soon you wanted to replace it and how much emotion you have for another failure if or when it comes.

Hope that helps......

Hate to tell you this but it sounds like your picture module is going bad. The bluish tint tells me it is leaking to the outside. Some problems with the LCD picture module can be fixed but I never had to fix one. Might check out some videos on repairing LCD picture tubes on YouTube.

My tv is TCL-29181U(Blue DOT). One day it just turned to be a bluish color and cannot be adjusted the color by its settings. Please help.

This is usually caused by bad solder joints on the circuit board connecting to the back of the picture tube, known as the neck board. This can be a relatively simple repair for someone with soldering skills... but generally there will be a cracked connection on this board that will need to be reflowed with new solder. If there are no solder joints which are evidently bad, then the issue is with a bad red amplifier IC or problem with the picture tube itself.

My samsung hl61a750a1fxza only has blue and green picture only, why?

Your red tube is dead. There are three primary color tubes that create all the colors. A new tube can cost $250 plus installation and then you will have an old, obsolete TV with one new tube. A new 46 inch TV is less than $400 these days.

How do i set componet 2 to hdtv on a samsung HLN617W, it says unsuppoted mode

When you get an Unsupported mode error on this tv, its usually not the tv. Change the resolution on the source to something the tv can handle.

Sometimes samsung labels the component ports in the back of the set so you know what it can accept.

I have a HLN617W Samsung television. The picture shakes bad. When I put it on pip where you can watch 2 screens at one time, on the left is real shaky and the right is good for about 20 minutes and then it...

Two boards can cause that kind of problem in Samsung HL-N617W, either power supply or digital board.
Need to swap above said boards to confirm what board is causing problem or inspect closely for leaky electrolytic capacitors and replace them with same ratings.
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

This sounds similar to the same problem I had with my TV. I went out and purchased a new light thinking it was the source of the problem, but I was wrong. It turns out the color wheel and fan went bad and it cost roughly $575.00 for the parts and labor to fix it. My tv was the hlr6167w
