Restore my dell dimension 5150

Hello i need to restore my dell dimension 5150 desktop, but i just can't. This the whole cycle of it: i turn my computer on, then it shows the  dell centrino thing, then it shows the windows xp professional load screen, then it shows the restoring screen. Now this is where the problem is. I got to the last part where you install the windows xp. The problem is that when i put the disc in it tells me to click ok, but i can't move anything because i cant use any usb mouse or keyboard. Please help me.

Im sure the boot sector is a mess. If the cd wont fix the boot sector you may have to copy all his personal files from dos and restore the computer to factory settings.

How do reset my compuer to factory without a cd

All versions of windows have whats called system restore.

Hopefully it was turned on.

Go to start button, all programs, accessories, system tools,
system restore, click on choose a different restore and then next,
now, on the next page click on the little box that says-show me all restore points, now pick the oldest restore point, and this will return the pc to
a state when it was new.

Need a reboot disk

Does it have a Microsoft sticker on the case giving you a serial number and product type: 2000, XP Home , XP Pro etc

If it has one then you need to find a buddy with a copy of that software and hope that it is compatible with the version you have on your system.

If not then it is off to the shop for a fresh copy

I have a dell dimension 5150 desktop problem; turn off after 60 minutes working.

Hi, maybe he was over heating, open your tower and look the fan of your CPU and POWER SUPPLY. Did they work? If yes, did the dirt on the heatsink of the cpu hide the heatsink? If yes clean it and make a test!

it sounds like an issue of driver installation order. If not installed in the correct order, the drivers may not function correctly. The correct order is:

Desktop System Software
Chipset Utility
Video Driver
Audio Driver
Modem Driver
Network Driver

My suggestion is to do a system restore to the 1st available restore point (The one created at boot after you reinstalled) then install the drivers in the correct order. (NOTE: Before you can play a DVD, you will have to install the DVD player too)
