Question about Carrier Air Conditioners

1 Answer

I have a carrier infinity system. On the thermostat it reads "sens error" where the outdoor temp is normally displayed. The inside unit is running but the outside unit is not. Any suggestions?

A burned or pitted contactor will/can cause a unit to not run. Outside fan. Just thinking out loud. Start with low voltage check at t.stat then check outside low volt. Set t.stat to on. If fan engages at least your transformer is good. Next set calling for cool. Drop t.stat 68-70. If nothing happens go outside and with a screwdriver depress the contactor in. If fan and compressor kicks in change the contactor. If contactor is pulled in check outside fan. Remove the wires from the compressor and see if the fan will run . If it does you have eliminated start components as good. The compressor has to be check. It needs to be ohmed out. Turn off power at disconnect. Pull the cover on the compressor. Check between pins; then pins to ground. Open or infinite is good.Have you checked fuses. Like small 3-5 amp fuses

I have the carrier infiniti system. When my thermostat reaches the set temperature it doesn't always shut off. I shut off the main control to let it reset. It works for a while and then it starts

Carrier Infinity system is a variable speed unit that will just slow down as it approaches set point. Unless it overshoots the set temperature (you have it set on 72 and the temperature keeps rising above 72) this just sounds like normal operation.

Our Carrier Comfort Zone II thermostat, which has 2 zone readouts, currently shows a temperature of 00, as in zero zero, on one zone. That is the main zone for our home. Zone 2, for spare bedrooms, etc....

Perhaps you could get some help from Carrier Support here:

I noticed they have an option of talking to an engineer, and perhaps they could explain how to reset or set the unit.
Hope this helps.

No heat when outside temp low When outside temp is 38 or above get heat. Is there a heater in the compressor that can fail?

I would start with your outdoor thermostat located in
the unit outside. I`m assuming this is a heat pump.
When the outdoor temthermostat is set to say 40F
anything lower than that and you are not using the
compressor, you are using electric heat thats located
in the air handler unit in the house.

I`m also assuming this is a split system and not a
packaged unit. If you are mechanically inclined and
you can locate the outdoor thermostat lower it below
the outdoor air temp and see if the unit comes on.

Sounds like you might have a problem with your electric heat or emergency heat

Carrier infinity control SYSTXCCUID01-B sensor communication erro

There should be a little black sensor bulb outside either on the unit normally under the electrical panel or inside it. It sound like the wire has come off or been disconected. It needs that on to properly run. Your control is trying to communicate with the outdoor unit and can not.

Outside unit has frozen

Check your air filter and evaporator at the indoor, and also the outdoor condenser coil if clean, be sure that the outdoor has no obstruction to both front and back of the unit. If dirty then clean both indoor and outdoor. If clean let the ice melt by turning of the unit and unplug the power cord or off the circuit breaker to reset the error if error is present. And on the unit again and observe if icing is present when unit is operating. If icing is present after 10 to 30 min of operation then the unit is under charge. And while unit is operating adjust your thermostat to higher temp. to check if thermostat is operating normally. If the outdoor will trip off after the adjusting the temp. then your thermostat control is ok if not then the thermostat control have a problem.
