Do I have to remove the fan blade on top of the shaft or the T-washer on the bottom of the shaft? I know about pressing things on and off but space is extremely limited. Any tips yet??? I cleaned the commutator and tried the unit again but apparently it is the brushes that need replaced.

You **** up water the same way as dirt. It's designed this way, hence the name wet/dry. Just be sure not to get the water in the very top of the unit where the motor sucks the air for cooling ventilation, if water gets in there it can burn up the motor. A little hard way, personal experience, speaking there.

Always use the foam filter when using the Shop Vac, keep your filters clean and it will operate more smoothly. When sucking water I usually take the foam filter off as well as the cylinder filter

I was using the shopvac and it just quit. (changed filter, still

The brushes that make contact with the motor's armature need to be cleaned. If you get into the motor and find that the armature is scored or burnt then you'll have to replace the motor.

Shop Vac just stopped

If you remove the motor, you will see that the wires that go from the switch to the brushes. On one side there is one wire connected directly to the brush. On the other side the wire goes to a plastic plug with a second wire going to the brush. This is probably where the problem is. This is a fusible link and it has most likely melted creating an open in the circuit. I put a piece of solder where the link was and the motor ran BUT the brushed arced like a sparkler. Upon further examination the brushes were crumbling apart. I have been unable to find replacement brushes.
This machine has a five year warranty. I called Shop Vac Customer Service 1-888-822-4644 and they sent me a new motor.
I had a Shop Vac QL50EIC which had exactly the same problem but the warranty was expired so that I had to buy another motor for about $50.

3.0 h.p. wet/dry vac

Check the motor brushes, either worn down or dust is keeping one of them from laying on the armature. The other would be a bad motor.
