I have the same problem, we tried unplugging it, and setting the time. When we hit the time and start it does nothing, just counts down the minutes/seconds and does not function. Two lights come on the one for MICROWAVE INDICATOR, AND THE LOW COOK INDICATOR? Help?

  • Anonymous Apr 06, 2009

Did anyone figure out the problem. We reset as instructed and it is still not heating but just counting down with the two red lights flashing.

Your manual is online here.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

After that, and following the instructions, it still has a problem, please reply back with details of how it's failing.

I have an Emerson 900W Microwave MW8999SB and it will randomly assign DEF1 and the rest of the keypad is difficult or not functioning. None of the quick buttons work, and only the 30-second button works....

Pressing the Clear/Pause button works. Sometimes. Most of the time, about a microsecond after pressing Clear/Pause, it goes right back to def1. Most of the time, pressing ANY button doesn't work. Usually takes me 10 to 20 tries to get anything to work. My microwave is about 3 months old. I will never buy Emerson again.

Emerson Microwave Model MWG 911156: I cannot determine how to set the hour on the clock. After I press the "clock" button, what do I press to get it to the correct hour?

Usually the minute and seconds or a combination of the timer buttons will work it. If it has no hour then the minutes must be used as a dual use button.
I have looked on the web and cannot find a photo of the front panel to refresh my memory.
Hope that helps.

My emerson just quick working the timer is on but it isn't doing anything. I unplugged it thinking it may have reset but it didn't. How can I fix it?

I have a similar issue with this machine. For your problem, try this...Press and hold the STOP button for three seconds. This is intended to turn off the "Child Lock Out" function. On the other hand, you may find that buttons that do not work today will be fine in a few hours and different buttons will not work. It seems that every time I press a button, it's "pot-luck" if it will work or not.
The only way to repair it is mail it to California at your own expense and include a check for $15.00 for handeling. Target won't help and if you bought the extended plan it only kicks in after the emerson waranty runs out. If you buy this machine, buy another brand as well so you have one that works while this one is out being repaired.

There's no reset button, only a a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in and see if ti works.

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

It may be the fuse, which is usually located on the floor of the oven behind the control panel, between the door switches, or on the filter board near where the cord comes into the unit.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout (TCO) / thermal fuse on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

The keypad may be damaged or worn out, or control unit may be damaged.

I would suggest that you contact Emerson. It may still be covered under warranty.
