Hey pitsL, This message should mean that the lens aperture is not set to its smallest aperture which would be the largest # on the aperture ring. This message could also mean your lens is not a G or D type Nikkor lens, or it is a non cpu lens which means if this is the lens should only be able to be used in full manual mode and the exposure meter will not function. After turning the camera on, there is a long beep and the screen says power off or format. Also the battery icon is on at the top right corner of screen, this disappears, then the card set up caption comes up on the top right corner. The beep stops and all you can do is turn it off. By the way the lens is out and stays out until you turn the camera off. We tried new batteries and rechargeable batteriesa also. Problem still exist.
