Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer
We have run into a very serious problem at home....our Kenmore Front Load Washer HE2 has stopped working only after 2 years of having purchased it! Sears wants us to wait 2 weeks before any service technician can come and inspecting it! With four children in the house, this is a major problem for me. Can anyone help.....(it would be much appreciated!)
The problem is that the washer does not seem to leave the drain cycle. Initially I thought that the drain pump had been damaged as I found a sock in its filter. After removing the sock, the problem did not go away. So I drove 60minutes to Sears Parts & Service store in St. Laurent, Ottawa! I purchased a new drain pump at the high cost of $102 (including taxes) and installed it on my machine. The problem did not go away! So my suspicion now is that there is some dirt on a sensor or the CPU is toast. I tried adding hot & cold water in the machine. But when I turn the washer on, the water simply gets drained. But the washer also stays permanently in the drain cycle. After a few minutes, the washer stops with diagnostic code F21. (ie: Add a Garment; Rinse; Clothes Clean). This code was the same prior to changing the drain pump.
PLease, would you have any ideas what may be wrong? Note that I have called many independant servicing businesses around my area, but no one wants to touch the Kenmore's! Maybe my machine is too new.
Thanks in advance.
It's most likely the pressure switch, had a similar problem and i replaced that switch and it fixed it... if you are facing the front of the machine with the top off its in the far right part of the top of the machine. There is a brown and white round plastic piece, it has one plug in the front (plugged into it) and a small black hose on the bottom. Order the part from sears.com and unplug the one plug going in, remove the bottom hose, twist the entire switch 90 degrees and remove it (careful not to break the clips). Reinstall the new one and it should be fine.

3) Open the dispenser drawer and immediately add 2/3 cup (160 mL) of liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment.
NOTE: Do not add any detergent to this cycle. Use of more than 2/3 cup (160 mL) of bleach will cause product damage over time.
4) Be sure dispenser drawer is closed.
5) Select the CLEAN WASHER cycle.
6) Press START.
NOTE: The basket will rotate, then the door will unlock, lock again, and then the cycle will continue. The machine will not fill, but the basket will rotate while the washer runs a short sensing cycle. This will take approximately 3 minutes.
7) The cycle will determine if clothing or other items are in the washer. a) If no items are detected in the washer, it will proceed to step 8. b) If any items are detected in the washer, all cycle lights will flash and "rL" or "F/34" will be displayed. Associated LED status lights will remain lit. The door will then unlock. Press STOP to cancel the failure code. Then repeat steps 1, 2 and 6 to start the cycle again.
8) Once the cycle has begun, allow the cycle to be completed.
9) After the cycle is complete, leave the door open, slightly, to allow for better ventilation and drying of washer interior.
Good Luck and thank you for choosing FixYa. Please take a moment to rate the info I provided and a short testimony is appreciated.
