Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P200 Digital Camera

1 Answer

MPEGMovieVX DSC-P200 I dropped this camera in the water last week. When I dropped the camera it was on and ofcourse went out after just a few seconds in the water. We removed the casing and dried the camera out. Everything seems to be functioning normally with the exception of taking a picture. When in any mode, the screen is just black. It's as if there is no light getting into the lens. The screen still shows all of the functionality, I can still adjust functionality, and I can still view pictures already saved on the memory card. Any suggestions on what may have shorted out? Thanks

Thank you Apprentice. I have not worked on fixing the issue as of yet. However, I felt there had to be some sensor in the lense that was damaged which was not allowing or converting the light, sense every other apect of the camera is functioning properly. I am positive you hit this on the spot and have identified for me a general location to find the sensor. Now it is a matter of taking this lense apart and getting to that sensor. I am going to start working on it and if you have any recommendations on how to approach this or can describe that sensor and its exact location (do I have to take the lense apart or is the sensor behind the display screen?), I would deeply appreciate it. I'll try to locate a diagram on the web if possible This was extremely helpful. Thank you again!!!

I believe I have located the sensor. There are two screws that I removed and the sensor pulls back and I can see the back of the lense. When I peel the sensor back from the lense, there is now light coming through which is visible on the display screen. when I press the sensor back onto the lense it is black again. I can waive objects in front of the sensor and can see the change in light and can see motion. Ofcourse no visusal since there is no lense to focus. It seems the sensor is working. Maybe something went wrong with the lense? I'll keep messing with it.

There is a sensor behind the lens of your camera that takes light and converts it to electrical signals that in turn is decoded by the board. If the sensor is damaged, there will be no picture to display only what you have in the memory stick. Work on it. Good Luck

Will not power off

This seems to be a common issue with this camera as several have been on ebay for sale with this exact issue.
evidently the circuit scr that controls the power off is bad and requires a complete dissembly to repair.

Sony cybershot dsc p200 water damage

salt is electrically conductive when in fluid (water) so when it happened i hope you pulled out the battery and protected the delicate lenses. a digital cam, is very delicate but their are companys that repair water damaged goods like mobile phones etc! just look them up in the yellow pages etc... avoid trying to switch it on until it gets repaired, but the mem card should still be fine depending on how long it was wet for! good luck!
