Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-42WE655 42" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

HDTV mode Okay I replaced the lamp block 2100U as you instructed me but when you change the TV to HDTV mode which is Video 5 screen the screen is blue and red and the images move across the screen. Unviewable..Regular TV and everything else works fine, DVD etc screen which is Video 4. All I did was replace the bulb as you described for me to do. Very strange. HD is not working.

AFTER REPLACING THE LAMP, I HAD TO PUT THE COVER ON AND NOW THE SCREEN HAS TINY BLUE DOTS AND THE POWER LIGHT STAYS GREEN. THE LAMP LIGH IS NOW ON AND RED

The blue dots are due to a failing optic block. The lamp is only making them show up more obviously. The TV is probably failing as the blue dots will get larger and eventually take over the screen.

Some of the ICs on the power supply block are damaged. This can possibly due to high voltage or defective IC. What you can do now is to get a new PS block. If you can get me the part number i can help you find it..

I have a sony wega 46 inch tv model number: KDF42WE655 the screen went black and the red light came on where it says "lamp" on front of tv Does this mean I just need to replace the lamp?

If your tv is around 2-4 yrs or used 6000-8000 hrs, never replaced the lamp before it could be time to replace it.The other most common failure is the board that powers the lamp, which is called the ballast. When its bad it will make a clicking sound or like wanting to turn on.But pretty much it does sound like the lamp.your part # will be xl-2100 and you can find it here: http://www.discount-merchant.com/Sony-XL-2100U-TV-Lamp-p/sony_xl-2100u_replacement_lamp.htm and here's the instructions to replace it: http://guides.fixyourdlp.com/sony/XL-2100U.php Have a blessed one!

Red lamp light stays light

I doubt that it is the optical assy. it sounds more like a chassis problem either on the DM or the FMT board.

check out www.tv-techs.com
if it is a chassis problem it will cost about $250.00 plus shipping one way to fix the chassis

This sounds like an issue with the optical block assembly. Sony had a problem with this part in a lot of the KF-series television.

They extended the warranty of optical blocks in the KF-42WE620, which doesn't help you but from what your saying this sounds like the issue.

KF 42WE610 turns on for two seconds, then goes black

no, had the same problem. Its the lamp ballast also called the lamp power block. It supplies power to the lamp, any how some repair shop wanted $450 to fix it, so i ordered the part from sony, part #146879816 ($116.25), trust me this is the part I double checked with many different places. Any how fixed it my self took about 15 minutes, just take the back cover off and the part is right there just kind of follow the screws and the 3 wires, super easy job, I suggest you replace the bulb at the same time, dont by a cheap bulb just get it from sony
