There are a couple of simple tests to determine what is wrong.

  1. Remove batteries from you remote and see if the problem continutes. If it does, the problem is not the remote.
  2. If the problem stops when the remote batteries are out then blow some compressed air into the buttons on the remote to see if that will take care of the problem.
  3. If that does not solve the problem then replace the remote
  4. If the problem is not in the remote then blow the compressed air into the buttons on the television set.
  5. If that does not solve the problem then you will need to have to tv serviced by a professional.

Check the setup manual, you need to re-assign the function of the volume buttons to the selected function.

The front panel Tactile Switches probably need to be replaced. The part # of the switches is 23344507. You can order them through Encompass Elect. 800-638-3328.
Hope this helps,

TV Volume turns down by itself - Philips 29PT8319 Matchline 27"

Most likely the volume down button on the front of the TV or the switch that it activates is sticking. Should be an easy fix otherwise.

Older GE television sound trouble

The first thing to check is the push button assembly maybe the volume down button has been pushed in too hard/far and is always making contact, sometimes when we clean the face of the tube water drips down in thru the edge of the frame in the buttonts, corrosion sets in and creates a short,if you are familiar with tv service you can chech the buttons thru the inside to make sure they are not pushed in but if you are not famliar be safe and call for assistance froma servicer.
