Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer

Washing not spinning, slow agitating

Hi. My whirlpool ultimate care II washing machine just stopped spinning on the spin cyle. On any other cylce the agitator moves, albeit slowly and it makes a terrible whining/ grinding sound and once it gets to spin it will not move at all. I have tested the lid switch and it is working and I have taken the agitator out and it seems to be fine. The problem sounds more like it is coming from the motor- what could it be and can I fix this myself? The washer is only a couple of years old.

Thanks!

You will need to take the washer apart, are you up for this?
Did you overload the washer? you may have burnt out the clutch, if you did the repairs may cost more then you want to spend.

Check to see if you have a broken coupler

Start by unpluging the washer or turning the power off. on the bottom of the control panel are a couple screws you will need to remove them. then the control panel pulls slightly forward and then you can flip is up and out of the way.

Now you need to look for two clips that hold the cabinet to the back panel use a screw driver as a lever and release them.

Now the cabinet should pull off to the front, make sure you have room to set is out of the way. it may have some wires on it, you will have to remove them and mark them so you know where they go.

Now down at the bottom of the washer are hoses and the pump, this is held on by clips and screws to the motor, you will need to remove these, then the motor needs to come off, it also is held on by clips to the transmission. I believe your problem is the coupler between the motor and transmission. replace as needed.

Or worse case you have other problems, clutch, etc. You may need to call some one in, or replace the washer completely.

Will not spin on any rinse cycle

Hi, This washer does not have a belt. While the washer is agitating, if you lift the lid will it stop? Some models will agitate but not spin if the lid is up. It sounds to me like the lid switch might be going bad.
If you will get me a model #, I can look this up for you and give you a better idea.

Sounds like the clutch is slipping but sometime catching. Or maybe the transmission is almost gone. Is there a burning smell? If so, probably clutch.

Washer won't start spin cycle

sounds like a lid assy issue, can you hear a "clicking" just before the lid is closed, try opening nad closing a few times listening for a distinct "click" if not the machine doesnt think the door is closed and for safety reasons wont spin and drain.

The spin tub mounting block is probably stripped on the basket drive. Remove agitator. Now put machine into spin do you see shaft spinning but the tub isnt moving???

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washing maching but will not spin.

lid switch is bad chance are you can by pass this by removing the timer header and crossing the outer wire on the lid switch that it mounted closest to the lid not the power cord this will tell you if you need a switch
