Question about Akai Televison & Video

AKAI MODEL CT3216. SET COMES ON AT PLUG-IN. PIC COMES ON AT 10SEC. NO PIC PROBLEM. SET HAS POOR AUDIO WITH NO CONTROL FROM CUSTOMER CONTROLS. SET CUTS OFF IN ABOUT 15 SEC. LEAVE PLUGGED IN AND IT COMES BACK ON IN ABOUT 25 SEC. NO CONTROL FROM FRONT PANEL, THOUGH HIGH-PITCHED SQUEAL WHEN CHANNEL (PROGRAM) BUTTON IS DEPRESSED. I WONDER IF FRONT PANEL IS SOMEHOW INVOLVED, BUT NO MENU COMES ON SCREEN, AND NO OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH PIC, AND NO DIALOG BOX ON SCREEN.

Earlier suggestions did not work. I think there was a bit of a misunderstanding: I did not mean I had trouble with the menu; I meant that the menu was not jumping on screen to indicate some trouble. There is no menu at all. Help.

Akai are known as "throw away" tv's. Rather then waste your time with costly repairs. You would be much better served purchasing a new unit. I would recommend a name brand like sony, panasonic, hitachi. It will have a brand new factory warranty. Also the money you save on the cheaper tv's is not worth it because this is the end result. I would check out your local circuit city, or best buy. So you can shop around for a comparable unit.
Thanks,
Lee

It seems problem is in microprocessor IC ,the function of this IC is controlling the system, that's command the menu on screen, volume indicator on the screen, no channel program on the screen and cannot control the control panel button and to the audio also,.
First to do is to checked the all parts sorrounding or associated to this IC,for leaky or dry capacitor ,change value resistor or open and shorted or open transistor, and checked also the solder joint for crack ,brittle or cold. If all of this are in good condition then i decided that microprocessor IC is depected, change that IC so the performance will be better again..or find a technician to do repair for you in order to avoid high voltage shock....

    Akai MODEL CT3216

We just had the same problem.
Picture-only went out for days and only returned in flashes. One mechanic
over the phone said it likely was the power supply. Replace tv because it's
too expensive to replace the power supply, he said. 2nd mechanic on phone said
it likely was the bulb. Replace the tv because it's too expensive to replace
a bulb and Akai is a lousy company from which to get parts. Third guy came
over to look at it. Miraculously, the tv picture came on when he (only)
turned it on, and hasn't gone off since. If it happens again, he suggested,
unplug the power cord for 20 minutes--that's the black cord on the left side
of the rear panel--left, assuming you're facing the TV screen front-on. Like
a computer, he says, sometimes these things just need to be rebooted. It's
not the power supply, he said. Otherwise, we'd have no picture OR sound. It's
not the bulb, he said. Otherwise, we wouldn't get flashes of picture. Hope
this helps somebody save money, and experience the joy we just experienced
this week when we learned we didn't have to replace our 1 1/2-year-old LCD
TV. In the meantime, we're keeping our fingers crossed!

Poor sound cqality on a Samsung DLP TV

If you are receving your HD via a cablebox, check the volume and audio settings in the box's menu. Some boxes have internal volume controls. If the level coming out of the box is below a certain level, you may experience low or poor sound quality. You can also check the audio settings to assure that they are set to the original settings.

1 thick Vertical line and many small diagnaol lines across screen ? I tried to reset TV a number of times and tried the Perfect Focus with no help. Akai's only service center in manhattan DO NOT service...

Are you kidding/?? Customer service told you to find your own repair shop.? Its time to sit down and write a letter to the main headqaurters that would be listed in your owners manual . MAN their not suppose to say stuff like that to customers. I would address it attention to the president of Akai and send a copy to the BBB and the consumer affairs as a company is suppose to provide parts and service for there products for at least three to five years ., It used to be seven! You didnt say how this happened or if there was sound or any video on the screen. I might be able to lead you thru some diagnosie,BUT these sets do not have any user serviceable parts inside and can hold several differant hi voltages in the set ,even if its unplugged or off . Please if you can send a picture of your problem But as i said if your not a tech its very dangerous to tinker with these set! Good Luck
