Well, you failed to tell us the make and model of the camera so I can only give you a generic answer. New cards must be formatted in the camera. Video requires a fast card so it can keep up.

I have a Samsung SC-D381 Digital Video Camcorder that I would like to tansfer recorded video from to a PC. I bought the IEEE 1394 PC card with the FireWire 6/4 pin cable. I don't know what to do next. ...

You'll need a software able to capture and edit video. Your footage is on tape, right? First, you must have a firewire port on your pc, with the cam properly connected to. Then, all you have to do is make use of a program like Adobe Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas, or even the Windows Movie Makes, and find the capture window/mode/whatever, which will show you a console with play-pause-stop-rew-ff-rec buttons and a little monitor, to see where on the tape you are. Once on the capture console, you'll rewind the tape to the beginning of your footage and press rec ON THE CONSOLE, not on the camera. The software should ask you for a place to save the file and that's all.

Stuck in "stop" mode, Viewed tape just for a few seconds. I don't have a manual.

It wasn't a digital camera problem. It's a camcorder . I still have the problem.

The gray strips usually mean the camera has dirt video heads - if it hasn't been dropped. Get a head-cleaning tape from Radio Shack or Best Buy, and run it a few times. If that doesn't do it, it'll have to be cleaned by a repair shop. Off brand tapes sometimes can cause this.

Trying to play off-camera stored video, when replaced onto SD card in camera

Did you change the file name on the original video? Are you able to put the video back onto the camera? If you changed the file name, you can't put it back onto the camera. It also needs to be in AVI format which is the video format that the camera records in.

Hope this helps!

No USB

It looks like this unit has a video out to a t.v. or vcr hookup. What you can do is download it to a vcr [ record it ] and pickup a vido frame grabber, what you are going to do is snag the photos from the video tape after recording them on tape. This is the only way unless you wish to tear up the unit; desolider the chip and using software retrieve the photos. If you are good with a solidering iron; digi key sells the usb port you woll need to replace.
