Everytime we try to print something, the printer beeps twice and say, "Change tray 1 to plain paper letter". We press the down arrow twice and the selection is, "use current tray 1". We then press the check button and the print job then prints. If we print something else immediately, it will print. If we wait say 30 seconds or more to print, the error messages start all over again.

Re: Will not print with giving an error message
On left side of tray are 3 fingers, for letter size paper bottom 2 are out, next one in. verify slider on bottom of tray is in place. Essentially paper not sensed correctly. print config page and see paper size

More info would be helpful. Like exactly what is the control panel message. However, from your description it sounds like the machine is looking for a paper size or type not loaded or wants paper loaded in the manual feed tray. Check your driver and see which paper tray is selected and what type paper as well as checking the printer to see if the tray is set to plain paper or some other type.
try to check your document paper size settings. if your document is in pdf format, try to unchecked the select paper size automatically but it will not respond since it is dependent on the paper size setting of the document.
you need to go into your printer properties and make sure when you push print, it's NOT asking to be printed on A4 paper which thats what it sounds like. Make sure its set for exactly what you have in the tray and make sure the printer paper tray setting are set to exactly what you have in the tray also... should this be of any help, please mark as FixYa!! You will need to change your paper handling. From the machine, go into the Menu-> then Paper Menu -> Change your paper size and type to your machine settings. Example if tray 1 is letter make sure it's set to letter and plain, then confirm each tray setting for each tray attached to the machine. Also pull the tray(s) out completely and make sure the guides are set correctly. (The guides move so you can put legal, A4 etc.) I've come across a lot of machines that the guides are off by a fraction which will prompt your machine to display the message you stated.
Please print a configuration page from the control panel of the printer
- Menu > Information menu > print configuration.
- Check for paper handling details.
Following setting should reflect.
Tray 1: Any size / Any Type
Tray 2: A4 size / Plain Type
If the above settings are not reflecting in the configuration page, please change accordingly by browsing on the control panel of the printer to:
Paper Handling Menu >
Tray 1 Size: Any
Tray 1 Type: Any
Tray 2 Size: A4
Tray 2 Type: Plain
There is a Paper Menu option somewhere in the menus on the op-panel. You need to go to the Paper Type option and change the Paper Type for Tray 1 to plain paper. You can also hit the Select button when you get this message and you will print.
On printer check media/paper type tray 2 or 3 is plain and tray 2/3 is set for letter paper size too, via printer control panel. Also check under paper handling other options for tray 1, also on tray 2 and 3, I think there is a blue little round switch on left should be set as letter not custom.
Some paper types cannot be feed from anywhere else but tray1/bypass ie labels/laminate/card stock.
Check print driver on pc has tray 3 option installed and is not set as default to print to manual bypass/tray 1
light flashing cause printer wants paper type/size that it "thinks" it hasn't got in tray 2/3
