Try running it without the battery and see if it does the same. Sometimes a bad power supply will cause a short to develop in the battery. If it stops shutting down without the battery the you'll need a new battery.

Hello,

There are three possible reasons why your computer is experiencing this power problem. What you need to do is to isolate the component that's causing it.

These are the parts which should be checked:
1. Power supply
2. Battery
3. Motherboard of the laptop.

Here's the procedure that you have to follow:

1.
Remove the battery from the computer.

2. Power the computer up with the power cord only without the battery on it.

3. Check if it works perfectly without any problems even if the battery is out. If it works, then, the battery needs to be replaced. (Note: Batteries are disposable parts. They usually die after 2 years of usage depending on how you use it.)

4.If no go even without the battery on it, check the ac adapter or cord if there's a light lit on the box of the cord. If no lights on it, double check the connection. If connections seem ok but no power, then, replace the power cord.

5. If power cord seem fine, check the hole in the computer where you plug in the cord. What you need to check is if there are any sign of damages. Wiggle the cord and see if there are lights lit in the laptop.

I hope this help.

Hi there,

It's a very strong bet that your DC Power Jack (the hole the cord plugs into) has finally broken loose enough that it can't power the laptop. The jack is soldered to the motherboard. The repair shop probably does not have anyone skilled enough to desolder the jack and resolder a new one on. The part itself is only about $5 but you have to disassemble the laptop and remove the motherboard to properly repair it.

I send all such repairs for my customers to any one of several vendors on eBay who usually do the repair for around $50. I'm posting a link below of some choices for you. Pick a company with a high % Feedback rating and you should be just fine. You buy the Auction, send in the laptop and they usually guarantee your money back if they can't fix it.

Hello,If the battery stops charging when you wiggle the power plug inside the jack, either you have a bad power adapter (test it with a voltmeter) or the power jack((DC jack)) is broken or loose.
If the power jack is broken you can replace it if you know few things about soldering;)
If the power jack is not broken but loose (not making good contact with the motherboard) you can re solder the old jack without replacing it with a new one.

HP Pavilion dv2020us laptop battery won't charge

How is your power supply? does it seem like you have to wiggle your cord that connects to computer to make it recieve power?...Many laptops power supply become loose over time form moving the cord around..when it does, the battery has a hard time getting electric power to recharge. Also, you my have other problems with your lithium internal battery that powers your cmos.

Check to see if your power supply is loose and go from there. the power supply is the little hole where you connect the cord to the laptop.

let me know what the status is

Dell Inspiron Laptop powers off by itself.

Hi,

This could be a couple of issues. One, the computer could be over heating and shutting down. Ask her if her laptop was warm and if the fan was constantly running. The second possiblity is the cord that plugs into the laptop has become loose and once wiggled will cause it to turn off because the battery doesn't hold a charge. Have her put the laptop on the table and with the computer running wiggle the cable. If it shuts down its a bad connector. In this case find someone with mad soldering skills and re-solder the connector on the motherboard.

If this sounds like a good solution a high score is appreciated.

Will not power up for more than 1 second. Without battery installed, will not power up at all

Sounds like battery is dead. Have you been having problems with power cord? When you plug in power cord with battery installed you should see a charging light. Maybe wiggle coord and see if you get some power. Toshiba, In my opinion is a great computer, but they do have a poorly designed power plug. They are forever being broken from the boards. I hope this helps and if it is a bad power socket, you can get them from Ebay for about $5. Good luck and have good day.

Screen blackout when using AC cord

I think you're goin to have to replace your" dc-jack" as it's called. This is where your AC cord plugs into your laptop.DC-jack problems are very common in laptops.Over time they wiggle loose just enough to mess up the solder connection on the motherboard.Try gently wiggling your AC cord where it plugs into your computer ,if you screen returns to normal when you wiggle the plug a certain way, then you've most likely got a bad dc-jack.
