Hi-I have a Dimension 8400 desktop and I am trying to switch the keyboard and mouse. My current mouse is a Dell 2 button with wheel. I am trying to replace it with a Dell 2 button that has a USB port at the end. My current keyboard is Model: SK-8100 and I am trying to replace it with a model: RT7D50. How do I do this? Please help. First, I would try booting to Safe Mode and see if that gets you to Windows. If it does, then it's a driver issue that can be relatively easily fixed by "Uninstalling" the keyboard in the Control Panel/Device Manager, then rebooting and letting the system reinstall the driver.
If that doesn't do it, then it sounds like the (assuming you're using a PS2 keyboard) PS2 keyboard plug port may be compromised (ie., damaged). Try using a USB keyboard instead and see if that solves your issue (as trying to repair a PS2 keyboard port is not practical).
Check to be sure your "Number Lock" or "Function Lock" keys aren't lit. These can lock out certain parts of your keyboard. If either of these is lit, press them to unlock the locked portion of your keyboard. These can be found at the top right on a laptop and between the number pad and main keys on a desktop keyboard.
Save all open programs using your mouse. Use your mouse to restart your computer. This will only work if your computer isn't frozen. If your mouse doesn't move, press the power button on your Dell until the computer turns off. Press it again to restart. If the issue was lack of memory or a locked program, this will unlock your keyboard. Continue to Step 3 if the keyboard is still locked.
Shut down your computer using your mouse or power button. Don't restart. Unplug your Dell.
Remove the battery if you're using a laptop by turning the laptop over and sliding the battery release latch. Slide the battery out and replace after one minute. For desktops, disconnect the keyboard from the desktop. Reconnect after one or two minutes.
Reconnect the power adapter or AC cord. Start your computer.
If your keyboard is still locked on a Dell desktop, disconnect the keyboard. Restart your computer and reconnect the keyboard after the system boots. Allow your operating system to recognize and reinstall the keyboard
Is this a USB or PS2 mouse? Have you tried a different mouse already. More than likely this is a bad mouse. If it has a ball in it and is not optical, try removing the ball and cleaning out the inside. If this doesn't work, replace the mouse.
you mentioned you changed the keyboard, so it means u got another keyboard and new drivers, if it not working its beacuse new drivers for other keyboard are installed on pc, uninstall the new drivers and install the dell wirless driver, restart the system try again.
Turn the mouse over and find the small rest/connect button
on the bottom of the mouse and press it. This should connect the mouse to
the receiver and work properly. If not, try pressing the receiver button
and then press the button on the mouse. This should be done whenever you
change batteries or glitch. Hope this helps you. Bud
Same Problem, use canned air to clean it. bash the button a few times. seems to help for a while. Dont bash it to hard or you'll break it. love the mouse but this is a crappy issue within 3 months of use. in a clean environment.
