Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

On my '96 Pontiac Sunfire original equipment the radio is fine but the CD player will register that a CD is inserted in the slot, but in 2 seconds or so shows "no disc." Do I need to replace the radio or is there a less drastic answer? Thanks. ECZ

How do I fix the clock display on my 1999 Pontiac Sunfire?

It appears to be that the radio clock display has malfunctioned, and is due for a replacement radio, which could be an aftermarket or oem radio, maybe found at a junk yard.

Tools required for oem replacement radio, torx keys set.

Before working on the radio or other electronics, disconnect the battery cables with 8mm wrench.

Replacing the oem radio is much easier, if you obtain oem radio, compared to aftermarket radio, due to being direct fit.

The radio is same for 1995 to 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and the Chevy Cavalier, regardless of sub models, such as SE,GT, VL,VLX,Z24. etc.

Parts needed for the the aftermarket radio install :Stereo assembly, stereo wiring harness adapter, radio antenna adapter, and dash install kit.wiring diagram for the wire colors / functions, along with tools, such as torx key set, screwdrivers, wire crimper, wire stripper, double ended wiring connectors, hair dryer.

The oem stereo removal video is for the 2000 to 2005 Sunfire / Cavalier, but are the same or very similar procedures.

What is wrong with my 96 Volvo 850 cd player (no disc changer)?

The motors for the eject tend to strip out (several very small plastic gears. Hopefully this is not the problem because it is impossible to find parts. The other option is that dust/dirt have built up inside and the sensor does not feel/see the disk you are trying to insert. Use a can of compressed air (office store - sold to clean computer keyboards, printers, ...). Spray into the cd slot to remove dust.

My radio in my 2000 pontiac only works after the car gets warm

is this an in dash cd player?..sometimes condensate moisture gets on the cd reader lens and causes an issue with the unit..get a can of cd presurized cleaner from walmart or an electronics store ..insert the tube on the nozzle into the middle of the slot where the disc goes in and shoot small spurts into this area being careful not to insert the tube about 1 1/2 inches or so.. this may blow all the collected dirt and moisture out enough that this issue will be done for a while..

How to install a cd/radio in a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire Went to Future Shop, they have the player, but i would have to buy hundreds of dollars of wiring because of the computer system in this year of vehicle....

The 2003 sunfire does, in fact, need extra wiring!
You'll need a mounting kit $20-$30 (required for all radios)
Wiring adapter harness required because of OnStar/Factory Amplifier/Navigation etc will run approximately $140 for the most expensive one.
Depending on the factory installed equipment (nav/onstar/amplifier) will determine which wiring harness you require.(1 of 4 available for this yr/make/model)
A normal standard wiring harness runs about $15 and looks like this....

Yours will look more like this one....

There is no way around the cost - as the other electronics in the vehicle are dependent on it.

Cd player in my 1996 pontiac sunfire dont work but the radio does

My husband's 96 sunfire did the same thing as well. We tried everything to fix it, right down to opening it up and checking it. They just burn out over time. Unfortunately there's not much you can do, and to have it replaced by the dealer will cost more than your car is probably worth, being almost 14 years old. Do yourself a favor, go to your local walmart, you can pick up a decent CD player (with an mp3 player input, so no FM transmitter!) for about 50 bucks, and they are easy to install. It's the only thing that worked for us. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance!

Car starts run's 3 seconds shuts down

Your car is equipped with a system called PASSKEY standard on all GM cars and light trucks, try the following procedure to reset the system, the battery being dead will trigger the system.

PASSKEY LOCKOUT RESET GM CARS 1999 UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.

Error on cd

Could be a number of things. Some of the older GM CD players don't work too well in very cold weather. Also, some of the older CD players won't play burned CD's. If it's not cold weather related, and you're using a regular production store-bought CD, then it is most likely an internal radio problem. Cheapest solution is to buy a cheap aftermarket player.
