Petrol weed eater will not start. Alomost starts if plug gap is closed up but will not continue to run.

Hi Mark, I own a shop, we will not work on ryobi, have you gotten 2 seasons out of it? If so thats probably as good as it gets. But you can check carb settings. In the USA they come with limiters on the adjustment screws, not too much you can do(break them off) back your adjustments counter clockwise 1half turn.

In have a Stihl weed eater and is hard to start have been told needs new carberator as stale fuel has been left in does this sound right ?
The carbs nearly never stuff up, make sure the air cleaner filter is clean (rinse in petrol, allow to dry) remove the spark plug and check the "gap" is correct (nail file should slide snugly between it) and the plug itself is clean (wire brush any carbon deposits away).

You shouldn't need to set the gap on plugs when you buy them for handheld equipment. It should be close enough straight from the factory. You can find replacement spark plugs at PartsBuggy.com.

the only thing left is the coil that is inside the cover right next to the flywheel with a gap of 10 thousand of a inch a business card will work but a new coil is almost thr price of a new trimmer unless you have a used one
