Try this:

1. Right click on "My Computer"
2. Click on (left click) on Disk Management
3. Find the drive (or see if it is listed there)
a. If it is there, initialize the drive
b. If it is NOT there - something is wrong with the drive

How do you reset the format on a laptop, and change the hard drive

Not sure what you mean by Format, but to change a HDD you turn the lap top on it's screen the undo the screws marked with a picture Harddrive at the bach of the laptop. Normally only one or two screws hold it in place.
Not more than three. Then you pull out the harddrive, do this slowly and when you have time, don't rush. To format a drive use the installation of Microsoft Windows. Format the drive to NTFS, as FAT32 is the older format. NTFS is faster and is standard from Windows XP up to 7.
Please rate my expertise.
Thanks.

Hi Your harddrive has bad indexing unit so this problem arise. For that you need to fix error on harddrive. First open cpu cabinet reconnect RAM memory and both connection to harddrive and power cable and ide or sata cable. Then for fix error on harddrive boot computer with cd/dvd rom then enter in recovery console and type in prompt "chkdsk /r" without "" then press enter then it fix error on harddrive. Then again boot computer with windows disk then choose repair option then if still problem arise then you need to repartitioning the harddrive then format harddrive and install windows then it will work fine. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

First of all, I hope the harddisk which has the operating system on it, and which the system is booting from is NTFS formatted. Try and crosscheck this first. Then after doing this, try and assign a new drive letter to the harddrive that is showing error from the Systems Management Page.
This is how you do that : Right-Click on My Computer Icon, Go to Manage, Click on Disk Management, Then when you get to this place, You should see ALL the HardDrives installed on your system including the one singing for "format me"...lol.
Then locate and right-click on the harddrive, and select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and select any new, unique letter for your HDDrive. then click on OK.
Hope this helps.
Goodluck.

I am having problems trying to get full amount out of my harddrive.

I would use a "secure wipe" - there are free downloads for ths on the internet - not comfortable recommending one over the other as I am just a nutral tech.

Using a secure wipe will also delete any and all partitions on the drive, then when you are ready, format the whole drive in NTFS format. Then it will be ready to use in its full gigabits.
