SOURCE: Toshiba P35-S611 wont power on!

yeah if you are planing to do it yourself..it is worth ..I just bought last week a broke one and I payed something under 100$ ..and I changed the motherboard in one that was doing the same..so ...if you think you will use it ..its worth looking on ebay ..or parts to buy what is missing
Anyway check the power line on the motherboard ..it may be just something unplugged..or a little part..but if it does not get any power..its just that ..
The fact that is charging the battery it means that the power is ok from the charger and the entry on the board...so check the ram memory ..and the power cable of the board...cause if the charging is ok ..and the fan is working ..it may be something like a cable or the switch itself..( in this case the switch board is changeable in a few minutes and has just a plug and 2 screws..

Testimonial: "well i actually took it to a computer store where i live at and the guy looked at it for free, he said it was the motherboard but the power button doesnt even work, the fan doesnt kick on, when it s plugged in it doesnt do anything, so im wondering if the guy even looked at it really b/c he didnt charge me and he just told me i might as well junk it, i found motherboards for it online for like 90 bucks its just i dont want to spend 90 bucks and then find out its a power problem too. the power button is broken on it too, but that shouldnt stop the light from not coming on when i plug it in"

SOURCE: My Toshiba P35-S611 shuts down without warning.

Indications of laptop overheating problem:

  1. The keyboard and the bottom of your laptop are very hot when the laptop is working.
  2. The CPU fans are working all the time at maximum rotation speed and operate much louder than before.
  3. The laptop suddenly shuts down by itself without warning. When it just started, the laptop was shutting down after 1-2 hours and how it shuts down after 5-10 minutes of operation.
  4. The laptop works fine when it runs idle, but shuts down as soon as you start using any memory demanding applications (DVD player, image editing software, video editing software, etc.).

Solution:
If the CPU heatsink is not clogged with dust and lint completely, you can use canned air and just blow it inside the laptop through the openings on the bottom and on the sides. It’s nice as a precaution measure, but it might not work if your laptop already has a problem and the heatsink is completely clogged.
  1. Open the laptop case, so you can access the CPU fan and the heatsink. In some cases you can access the heatsink through the latch on the bottom of the laptop. Sometimes (for example Toshiba Satellite A70/A75) you have to open the laptop case all the way down.
  2. Carefully disconnect the fan cables on the system board and remove the fan. If the fan makes unusual sound when it spins (grinding sound), I would recommend to replace the fan.
  3. Clean the fan and the heatsink with compressed air.
  4. I would also recommend removing old thermal grease from the CPU and applying new grease for better heat conductivity.

How do I start over with my computer toshiba p35 s611 do I have a restore on this model or do I need to format HD and reload XP? I dont have any restore disks.

if you go to "computer" and there is a partition or hard drive showing as "recovery" then you should be able to take your lappy back to its original state.
if not then you will need to format, depending on how old your system is anyway, a format might do some good.

Satellite P35-S611 has trouble charging

If you have to wiggle the power cord it is most likely the DC jack on the motherboard. It is usually the center pin in the the jack that breaks the solder point and the small tension band inside the jack housing weakens.

Starts up for a second or two the shuts down

You can't conclude it is power just like that. What happens when it is connected to the mains? Same thing, then the problem might be a virus infection.

Slow Hard drive

That model is only IDE capable and has no SATA ports on the motherboard. You should get a faster IDE harddrive OR an external USB harddrive .

My satellite P35-S611 will not run on AC power nor will it charge the battery

I have just fixed the same problem on my Toshiba p35 s611.
The power jack inside the laptop had been damaged. To reach the problem you must take apart the entire laptop (there are a few guides for doing this online). Next I simply found the positive connection coming from the jack (it is the wire coming out of the back of the jack) and followed it to where it enters the motherboard. I simply flipped it around and re-soldered that one spot. Other sites recommended I remove the jack but I couldn't melt the solder enough to do so, however just trying and adding some fresh solder was enough to fix the problem. I no longer need to jiggle the power connector to the right angle just to get power.
