Well this is hard to explain........the ribbon slips into a socket on the board pluged into the dvd drive. the board is held on by 2 screws. the way the ribbon plugs into the board is really shaky and it disconnects really easy with the slightest pull when removing the disc assembly. the best way to manage plugging back in is to pull the drive assembly out of the case an lay it to one side still plugged in. remove the dvd plug board with the 2 screws. this makes it easier to plug the ribbon back in. the place where the ribbon slides in has a plastic locking type very small mechanism that flips out to unlock the ribbon. the first time i removed the drives, the ribbon and the plastic piece fell apart and was very difficult to figure out how it worked. basically the plastic piece snaps into the deep side of the port with the 2 little tabs on it towards the inlet side. when placed back in proper it swivels up to allow the ribbon to be pushed back in then flips down to lock the ribbon under tension to maintain the connection. then place the dvd plug in board in its relative position. lay the drive assemly back in then hold it just far enough out to plug the board back in and replace the screws (although i am sure the screws are not really neccesry....lol).

It helps to know what to ask for....

Is it the ribbon cable (see below)
acer aspire L100 - 9fc9b24.gif Or the 4 pin molex plug? (see below)
9b76c9f.jpg Or a SATA cable? (see below)
8de40ec.gif Or an eSATA cable (see below)
c71f854.jpg Or the sata Power cable? (see acer aspire L100 - af6f207.gif> af6f207.gif
Then you can go on the internet and find and purchase the right cable you need replaced.

I reset my surge protector and the computer wont power up. i think i need a new power supply. the power cord is working fine. Please let me know where i can find a power supply for the aspire...

The Acer Aspire L100 is a desktop computer powered by a special DC adapter and power cable. The computer's motherboard incorporates a fuse designed to prevent any power surges from damaging the computer. If the fuse burns out due to a power surge or for any other reason, the computer will no longer function. You can check the motherboard fuse for damage yourself, then take it to a trained technician for replacement if needed

Shut down the Acer Aspire L100 and turn the tower around.

Press the "On/Off" button on the front of the tower. If the computer will not boot and the fan does not turn on, the fuse may be burned out.

Unplug the power cord from the rear of the tower

Turn the tower on its side and remove the Phillips-head screws connecting the back panel to the Aspire L100's cabinet.

Pull out the motherboard assembly gently from the back of the cabinet. The internal fuse is located on the motherboard behind the DC power jack, which is to the right of the monitor jack

Let me know if this helped..

The acer l100 does not power on at all no lights or fan running

If the computer is not starting then and the power supply is ok then you need to try a different charger. If the problem still exist this may a sign that the motherboard is dead and need to be replace, because when a motherboard is dead it the computer will not receive any power.
    Thank you

No power when press the button, power plug is good?

Good day sir/ma'am, chances are that your power supply box is the faulty part. But to make sure let us test your power supply box. here are the steps:
    1. PC is off, open the side panels of the CPU, disconnect the 20(or 24) pin molex connector from the motherboard.
    2. Get a piece of jumper wire, about 4 inches and splice the ends.
    3. On the molex connector, locate the green wire, then using the jumper wire, short it with the black wire (there are lots of black wires there).
    4. look at the exhaust fan, at this point it should be spinning (good). if not here are the other possible outcome: (1) the fan did not spin. replace the power supply box with a new one. (2) the fan spins momentarily then stops, this condition only occur once. Its either your power supply has no load (intermittent symptoms), or the switching controller stage part is faulty. Better buy a new one than have a headache. (3) blows a fuse. replace the entire box.
If you have a good power supply, install it on your CPU and test.

Acer Aspire L100 does'n start. no lite in front pannel. Power supply has 19 volt and getting to motherboard

okay so 19 volts getting to the board, no boot, this could be a few things make sure the mobo is securely grounded (some boards are picky) make sure that all the cables (20 pin connector and 4 pin connector if there) are connected all the way.

    Removing L100 hard drive

Remove the front panel by gently lifting the three flat plastic tabs. Remove one screw at the corner of the disk drive and lift the disk drive and DVD drive upward by the plastic handle on top. Disconnect the two SATA connectors from the disk drive by simply pulling them off. Disconnect the ribbon cable from the DVD drive gently lifting up on the black tab at the ribbon connector. This is hinged and releases the ribbon cable.

The unit is now free and you can turn it over and remove the screws securing the disk drive.
