Problem with my Canon Pixma MP500

Hi,
My printer keeps coming up with the  Error: inner cover is open. close the inner cover and press OK.
Needless to say the inner cover isn't open. I've open and closed it loads of times and pressed OK but nothing doing.  My computer tells me it's: ERROR Number 1851. Printing cannot be executed because the inner cover is open. 1. Check that the CD-R tray has been removed (what's this?) 2. Close inner cover etc
Can you help please. the printer has been working perfectly up to now. all best Sharon

did what you said and now a different error message has come up: THE TYPE OF PRINT HEAD IS INCORRECT. INSTALL THE CORRECT PRINT HEAD.

    what does that mean?

Try a hard reset first: Unplug the printer from power source and PC, wait about 5 minutes and replug. Should the issue recur, then the cover sensor is probably faulty. That is the reason you are getting this error repeatedly. The only solution is to send the printer in for servicing and get the sensor repaired/replaced.

In any case, here are the steps to close the inner cover:

1. Press the Open Button (1) to open the Paper Output Tray (2).

2. Raise the Scanning Unit until it stops.

3. Close the Inner Cproblem with my Canon Pixma MP500 - affc9ed.gifimg src="http://i.fixya.net/uploads/images/affc9ed.gif" alt="affc9ed.gif" class="h_mi" />d15f9de.gif

You can also try reinstalling the printer software along with any patches, updates, etc from the Canon website. Make sure you uninstall the existing software first though..

If neither works, then its time to take the printer in for servicing. You could try to contact them by phone first:

Greetings,

The probe inside the printer (the one that watches if the cover is open or not) is malfunctioning. Not a user-replaceable part so that means the unit is service bound.

Hello sir;Lift up the inner cover , on the right hand side there have a round hole look down the hole you will find a piece metal, try find some stick to push down that's door switch, if the message disapear, means door switch is OK, then have make sure your reset procedure is correct, close all cover turn switch off , UNPLUG power cord, wait for about one minute plug in and turn on the power again, it should be work.

The inner cover (flap in front of cartridges) is closed but the following sign keeps reappearing "inner cover is open. Close the inner cover and press ok".

When the message shows means inner cover sensor is faulty so it cannot detect inner cover state correctly. Try to clean the contact sensor with contact cleaner is good idea since it sometimes an oxidation occurs. Many times I success fix the problem like this.

Getting "inner cover is open" message

The inner cover is a flap on the inside in front of the carriage when it is at rest when the cover us open. You had to flip the inner cover down to access the ink cartridges.
Open the cover. The inner cover is in the center and need to be flipped up.
Good luck.

Cd tray error Canon Pixma MP810

Sorry a little late only just read your problem.
The location is not the bottom tray feeder but the disk tray. In settings change your media type to "Printable Disk" the paper scource should automatically change to "Disk Tray" and hopefully every thing will work OK.
