My new dell quadcore has the above video card, plus a widescreen monitor.
It seems to only display in widescreen 16:9, or wider i.e. bars a top and bottom of screen. How do I get it to display in 4:3 so things are not squashed? I think its called pillarboxing? Dell support couldn't fix this which amazed me!
Regards, Chris, Gloucestershire, UK
My wifes DELL has a F key with a blue icon that does that
take a look at the BLUE symbols and see if there is one showing a rectangle with either blue bars on each side or similar
When she presses it the screen changes to a 4:3 aspect with black bars on each side

Hello Latoof:
I've now fixed the problem, which is really down to my not understanding the intricacies of my new computer, plus a lack of proper instructions from Dell. The screen is 435mm x 272mm which is an aspect ratio of 1.6:1. It was set to, and I was using, 800 x 600 pixel resolution which seemed to be the 1.33:1 that I wanted, but actually, on the screen, this meant the horizontal axis was stretched. I can now "drive" the graphics card, having downloaded the Catalyst Control Center for the ATI card from the web which was not installed on the computer! If I set the screen to 1280 x 768, widescreen, which seems counterintuitive until you realise this is matching the screen's physical aspect ratio, then it displays correctly. So my problem is solved, and thank you for stimulating my thoughts. Regards, Chris.
