Question about Panasonic DMR-EZ47V DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Hello, Dustin / unsupported discs issue

Dustin: My unit is still under warranty - I got for Christmas. The weird thing is that most of the time it works fine - I recorded a show last night OK. A couple months ago it was having trouble reading unfinalized discs. I contacted Panasonic, they sent a disc to "reboot" the player, and then it was fine again.

Both the discs and player were bought in the US. Getting back to my original question, do you think a repaired lens or new unit might read the unsupported discs that were recorded on the unit?

Thanks, Brad

Hi Brad

Before you attempt to purchase a new lens or a new unit, i would suggest that you buy a "Len Cleaner Disc" to clean your lens, if that doesn't help then you should either repair or buy a new lens.

To repair or install a new lens, you will need a service manual(Let me know if you need one.) Then you can do it yourself.

Please also remember that if you attempt to open or repair the player in anyway, it will void your warranty so i think you should take it to Panasonic and have the unit replaced or refunded.

Thank you for using FixYa. Have a nice day and please remember to rate this solution as FixYa if it helps you.

Hello,

I believe the disk that they are trying to sell you is the offline firmware update disk you can download the firmware update from here

Let me know if there are any other issues.

Hi there

I think your DVD Player could have been damaged while it was in storage, this sounds like there is a problem with the lens (laser), i am going to suggest that you take it to a repairman and ask him to fix it or buy a new laser for your DVD Player attempt to fix it yourself.

If your DVD player is still under warranty, you should take it back to the retailer and have it repaired or refunded.

This could also be caused by "un-married" Player and Disc, if you bought the DVD Player in one country and bought the DVD's in a different country, this could also cause the problem. If the DVD's are copied, that could also cause it.

Thank you for using FixYa. Have a nice day and please remember to rate this solution as 5692f33.png if it helped you.

My Toshiba portable dvd player says no Valid Disc

If the units under warranty you may want to contact Toshiba as it sounds your unit is in need of a replacement laser assembly.
If the unit isnt under warranty, Toshiba should be able to supply the parts you need and as long as you mark every thing that you remove, as to know where it goes when re-assembling the unit. The lasers arent difficult to replace. Good luck.

Panasonic DMP-BD30 won't read blu-ray disks

Sounds like the DVD/Blue ray laser has gotten dust on it from being stored in a closet.

I would go to your local electronics store and purchase a cleaning disk. They are normally under $10. Insert it and run it though the player.

This sound no more serious than a dirty read laser.

Give cleaning a try.

Disc tray cannot be opened

Hi, The unit is in initialization/reset mode immediately after powerup. It does a self diagnostic sequence. When a fault is detected, it actually locks up till the fault is removed/repaired. A couple of things you can do: 1. Unplug the unit from the mains for a couple of hours; 2. Check your manual if there is a hard/full reset sequence/button and perform it; 3. Remove the topcover and inspect the loading tray. There is a possibility that a CD is stuck, lodged or skewed inside; 4. There is also a possibility that the loading mechanism is stuck, defective belt/gear; 5. if the unit is still under warranty, require service or replacement; or 6. if no longer under warranty, seek the services of a qualified professional. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

Tevion player shows BAD DISC,

Since the unit is under warranty, you can't touch anything without voiding the warranty. This problem could be as simple as a dirty lens. Bring the unit in for repair under warranty.
