Go to start....run

In the box type msconfig

Go to the startups. Look for a program that relates to sonic update and uncheck the box. Press okay, restart the computer at the prompt. When it boots back up, click ok in the box that will appear. It should be taken care of.

Am getting 1721 errors on my computer, can you tell me how i can fix it ?

Here you go. This is long winded but should fix you up.
Error 1721 is a common problem for many different Windows systems, shown when the installation you're trying to perform develops a problem and needs to be fixed. If you have this error, it's recommended that you're able to first fix any problems that could be inside your Windows system, and then cure the specific issues that the Windows Installer program has on your PC. This tutorial is going to show you exactly how to do that...
This error will typically show like this:

  • Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personal or package vendor.

The problem with this error is actually caused by a very simple issue - the Windows Installer program that is used to install the various files & software onto your PC is actually damaged or corrupted & preventing your system from installing the program you want. This can be caused by a number of problems, including everything from having corrupt registry settings to the Installer program on your system being damaged. To fix this, you first need to make sure that Windows Installer is okay, and then get rid of any further system errors on your computer.
The first step to resolving this error is to "register" and "unregister" the Windows Installer on your system. This is a program which installs all the programs that you want onto your PC, and is constant on every Windows installation. The problem that often causes error 1721 is the way in which Windows often cannot read the Windows Installer program, because it's not "registered". Registering a program basically tells Windows where to look for it on your system, and it's often the case that this stored reference is either damaged or deleted by accident. To ensure this is not a problem, you need to be able to type the following into your system:

  • Load up "CMD" (click "Start" > Run > type cmd)
  • Type msiexec u/unregister
  • Type msiexec /register
  • Try reinstaling the program you wanted to

If you try this and find it does not work, then it's recommended you then use a program by Microsoft called the "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility". This is a new program which basically cleans up all the settings and options associated with the Windows Installer program; meaning that if you have any problems with the Windows Installer on your PC, they should be fixed. You may also wish to install Windows Installer 4.5, which will basically upgrade the Windows Installer program on your system, which should resolve many cases of the 1721 error.
It's also highly recommended that you use a "registry cleaner" to fix any of the errors that are on your Windows system. A registry cleaner is a type of software tool that basically scans through the registry database of your PC and fixes any of the problems that are inside it. The registry database contains all the settings, files and options for Windows, and is where everything from your most recent emails to your desktop wallpaper are kept. It's basically like a library for your system which is continually being used to help your software run correctly. Unfortunately, the registry is continually being damaged & corrupted, leading it to become highly ineffective and erroneous. To ensure this problem is not causing the 1721 error, you should clean through your system with a registry cleaner tool.

I have this window that keeps popping up ''sonic Update Manager''. They want me to put in a cd that has the file um.msi in it. This was a download so I do not have a disk. I continually ''end Task'' in the...

Follow this procedure and your problem will be resolved. Do exactly i say..!

Step 1:- First Downlaod the windows Clean up utility.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Click on the link above --> and then Under Summary Option on this page.

Click on the link mention below:-
( Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now. )

Install the windows clean up utility on the computer.

Once it is installed Hit the finish button.

Now Click on start-->go to All programs-->navigate
Microsoft windows Clean up utility software.--> click on it and runn it.

Once the Clean up utility window opens up.

Find out sonic Update Manager in the list you see.

Click on it and highlight it .

Now click on the button remove at the botton of that screen.

Once it is gone. Restart the computer your system will not pop up that message again.

( Reason :- The reason why you are getting that message is that the sonic Update Manager software is not installed properly on your system which is why it keeps poping up the MSI ( microsoft Installer ) on your screen for sonic Update Manager. )

So to get rid of it just remove the MSI from the list in windows clean up utility and it will not pop up again.

Let me know if it works for you.

Please do follow the instructions as provided. It will work.

Hi My son decided to completely clear his Packard bell M1610 and i don't hav the recovery discs. Is ther anything i can do?(Apart from throttle my son)

When you mean he decided to clear his computer out. You probably mean he either deleted files, folders and programmes off his computer.

You have 2 options

1. Contact the computer shop you bought the PC from or the manufacturer Pacard Bell giving them the machine number in both cases and explain to them that you do not have the Recovery CD and can they post one out to me

or

2. Purchase a copy of an Operating System (either Windows Vista or Windows XP) and a copy of Office 2003 (XP) 2007 (Vista) and install a fresh copy on your machine.

Sonic RecordNow

You should have received a disk with the computer for "Utilities", you will have this software on that Disk.

If you don't have that disk you may call DELL, they will send the disk to you at no extra cost.

Kindly rate the solution.

Delete mycomputer

Hello,

If you would like to factory restore the machine, here is a link with information on how to configure your pc to boot from CD.

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=4F6B48DB99ACDA78E040AE0AB7E15F49&journalid=5413CADAC5825E73E040AE0AB7E11D38&Query=&SystemID=&ServiceTag=&contenttype=&os=&component=&lang=&doclang=&toggle=&dl=

After verifying that you can boot from CD, below is the link for using the factory restore CD to restore your machine to that state it was in when you initially bought the pc.

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=F1CAF70CBAA94797B3F60FFE4A2FE346&journalid=5413CADAC5825E73E040AE0AB7E11D38&Query=c3lzdGVtK3Jlc3RvcmU=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_CEL_2400&ServiceTag=&contenttype=-1&os=-1&component=-1&lang=-1&doclang=en&toggle=false

Please be sure to read the above link. It also has instructions on restoring your machine if you don not have the cd's. Be aware that after this restore procedure any programs or data installed after you bought the machine will be lost.

Thanks
