I have a Proview LCD TV model # PA-32JK1A. When I plug in the TV, the orange standby light comes on like usual. When I turn on the TV (with the remote or the front panel) the blue power light will come on but all I see are a few (6 or 7) thin bluish white vertical lines on the dark (but properly backlit) screen. The backlights are obviously on but there is no video or audio signal. There is some slight white noise coming out of the speakers but it is not a real audio signal since it is not at all affected by the volume control or inputs. I have tried all of the various inputs (dvd, vga, audio in etc.) but there is no change in the screen or the audio from the speakers. I have tried to switch the input mode or bring up the menu with the remote and with the front panel buttons with absolutely no effect. The only buttons on the remote or the front panel that do anything are the power buttons. I opened the back panel to inspect the circuit boards and found no obvious burn marks or bulging/leaking capacitors. I tested all the pico fuses I could find on all of the different circuit boards and they all tested OK. I checked the power supply output voltages with a voltmeter and found 5, 12, and 24 volts on the various lines where it looked like it should have voltage, but without a schematic I couldnt be sure if each was correct. I suspect it might be the TCON board from some of the stuff I've read but I am not an expert. When I unplug the main input connector to the TCON board the thin white lines disappear but there is still no video or audio signal and the backlights stay on. When I unplug the left output ribbon from the TCON board (to the left side of the LCD Screen), the white lines disappear from that side of the screen only but remain on the opposite and the backlights all stay on. Same sorta thing happens when I unplug only the right TCON output ribbon. Apparently I can get a new TCON board for about $100 including the shipping but I would like a second opinion before I start ordering and swapping new parts. Thank you. Joe.

I was tinkering with the thing trying to find a problem with 12VDC so I decided to disconnect the one wire coming from the power supply providing the 12VDC to the main board. Suprisingly this had absolutely no effect. The screen looked exactly the same as when it was hooked up and the sound still didn't work. So I tried supplying the main board with an external 12VDC supply (an adapter spliced in) an this had no effect either. Audio / video acted the same. This makes me believe that the 12VDC supply from the power supply board is good and the problem (if any with the 12VDC) is further down the line if that makes any sense. Still baffled. Joe.

As far as I can tell the TCon board ony has one surface mounted fuse on it labelled F1 with a little 3 printed on it located just above the main input connector. I have a picture of it but nowhere to upload it to sorry. Joe.

As far as I can tell the Tcon board has only 1 surface mounted fuse labelled F1 with a little 3 printed on it and its located just above and to the right of the main input connector. I have a picture of it but nowhere to upload it too sorry. I will try to test for 12VDC at that fuse once I get it back together again.

Hehe, now that its working I'm too lazy to diassemble it again to test the voltage at the fuse. It was kind of clumsy to get at while all the necessary cables were still hooked up so I dont want to risk accidentally shorting anything out if I don't have to.

Hi, I just read what you have posted on my LCD TV troubleshooting guide, it does not sound like bad T-CON board because you do not get the sound, you disconnected the main T-CON connector from the main board and get the glowing screen but you still do not hae sound.
In the LCD TV, you can discoonect the backlights inverter board power cables (cables from power supply to the backlights inverter board), and the T-CON board cables from the the main board to the T-CON, you should still get the sound since there are no feedback singals from the T-CON or from the backlights inverter boards to tell the main board that they are bad or not.
If you are 100% sure that you do not have sound on all the input modes then I would suspect the main board problem.
At least the backlights ineverter is good.
Do you get the 12v at the T-CON board surface mounted fuse?

Thanks a bunch for the reply Budmrtn, I was beginning to lose hope anyone would be able to help with this stumper at all.

I disconnected the inverter board and the tcon board cables like you said and then tried all the audio inputs again with no difference from before. No audio signal coming from the speakers or from a set of headphones that I tried plugging into the output jack.

I tested all the wires going to the tcon board (at both ends) and the most Igot was 5 volts DC. There were some 3 volt signals and some 1 volt signals as well but I could not find any 12VDC anywhere going to the TCON board.

I do have what appears to be a good 12V DC coming out of the power supply going to the main board though. So if you are certain that there is supposed to be 12VDC going to the Tcon board then it's getting blocked somewhere on the main board.

I will try to follow the 12VDC signal through the main board and see if I can spot any obvious problems.

I'd still appreciate any further ideas or suggestions you might have.

    Thanks.

    Joe.

It's also possible that the speakers are somehow turned off in the menu but since I can't access or even see the menu I have no way of knowing.

The 12vdc from the power supply module is used for the audio amplifirers for the speakers.
The T-CON uses SWITCHED 12VDC to power the T-CON board.
Did you find the surface mounted fuse on the T-CON board?

Can you post the pictures of the T-CON board? So I can see if it has more than one fuse on it.

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2011

Like I said multiple times before (sorry, hehe) I found only 1 surface mount fuse on the TCon board and I measured 5 VDC on either side of it when the tv was powered up and on. I'm assuming that means it's good. Still stumped. Any more suggestions / help very welcome.

Only 5vdc for 32" LCD PANEL does not sound right, I may be worng since most of the 26" and up LCD panels use 12vdc to power the T-CON board, but without diagram I cannot be sure. This will be tough to troubleshoot without diagram, I hate throwing in board until it works cause it can get real expensive. Keep me inform if you are able to get it to work, thanks.

Luckily I found a donor tv set with smashed lcd panel for next to nothng. Swapped out the Tcon board from that one and everything works fine in mine now. Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for posting the progress. What voltage are you getting at the T-CON board fuse?

Where is power button located on tv

If it is the flat screen model look at the TV, You will see a blue or orange indicator light on the front of the tv by the speakers. Put your finger over the light and the TV will come on and off. The Volume, Channel and Menu buttons are there also. They are not an actual push in "Button". Just look at the TV close to the Proview insignia. You'll see the On/Off button there!

When i turn on my Proview PA-32JK1A (Model 3200), nothing comes on the screen, and in a few seconds, the blue light indicating that it is on, turns back to orange .... what is wrong with it?

if you take the back off of it (only 3 big black screws)
and look at the yellow motherboard (power inverter)
on the top - left most connector

there is at the top of it one red wire in the convector
the pin it touches will be singed because of a bad confection arching electricity. clean the pin with 600-800 grit sandpaper

put it back together and you will have one working tv

We have lost our remote and want to buy a new one. All the universal remotes we see do not list Proview

The universal remotes are never that great anyway. Even if you find a universal remote for the TV, 90% of the time you can't control the menu options and other settings. It's best to have the remote made for the TV.

I know a few good web sites for remotes at a good price.
Is your Tv model a PA-32JK1A ?
Here's two places for the PA-32JK1A remote:

If it's not the right TV model, let me know. I will try and find one for you.
