If you have a new HP computer, I'm assuming it's running Windows 7? You should just be able to plug it it with the USB cable. Windows 7 will automatically install it for you. If it doesn't, browse to Canon's website to download the appropriate printer driver.
If you have not previously installed your printer or you did an uninstall before downloading the new driver, you now need to add the printer using the new driver.
In Windows 7, click on Devices and Printers.
At the top of the window you will see Add a device and Add a printer
Click on Add a printer.
Choose either Add a local printer or Add network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.
Follow through the choices and if the install program is not able to find the dowloaded driver, point to the location where your driver was downloaded. If you did not make note of the location you could run a search or download a second time making sure you save the driver to a location you can remember. You can then say Have Disk when asked and then browse to the location you saved the printer driver on your computer
If you have the correct driver for your printer and operating system the printer should complete installation
There are no specific Lexmark X5470 drivers for Windows 7, however, the Vista drivers work. I recommend not to plug the printer to your computer yet. First, check if your Windows 7 is running on 32-bit or 64-bit by clicking on the Windows logo Start menu > right click on Computer > Properties. Then, download using this link: http://bit.ly/b09DKc (for 32-bit) or this link: http://bit.ly/bEvOxQ (for 64-bit). Follow the instructions. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, leave a comment and I'll get back to it. Thanks.
You need to download drivers for windows vista. They are supported in windows 7. Go to www.hp.com, click on "drivers and support", enter your printer model, and download the drivers for windows vista. Hope that will help solve your problem!

You may have done this already but go to www.lexmark.com and go to the support/downloads tab and search for your printer. Download and install the printer driver for your printer which is for Windows 7. let me know if this works.
You need drivers for win 7 only for the two printers you have .some of the mfg, have not got all the bugs out as yet. Im in the same boat .had to get a new model so i could print. Check windows web. site for driver 7up dates.hope this helps
If you connect your printer to your Windows 7 computer, and power it up, Windows 7 should find the driver and install it. If not, you can go to www.hp.com, and click on the support/drivers link , and download the current driver for your printer.
More than likely...I have yet to have an old printer not work with a new computer, in fact the new computer is likely to have your driver pre-loaded making installation easier. Using the disk that came with it, however, often adds additional features such as an easier to use troubleshoot/toolbox.
