Garmin Nuvi 200 2009 Map Update

I've been trying to update the maps on my brand new nuvi 200 and have been having problems with available space. In the forums I have read that others users had to delete all undesired language support files, and I have done so as well, but I still receive the same message from the updater application. I have also tried to delete all the photos which I have uploaded to the nuvi by trashing the jpeg files from my computer, but they still appear when I power cycle the unit. Eventually, out of frustration, I reset the nuvi to factory settings and erased all data from the unit by pressing the bottom right corner of the screen during power up, but when I mount it to my computer the available space remains unchanged. PLEEEEEAAASE HELP ME!!!
I am using a Apple macbook with OS 10.5 and have been trying to update using the 2009 north american maps which I have already downloaded from the Garmin website to my desktop. Any advice would be most appreciated!

Same problem here using Mac OS X. I've already e-mailed Garmin support, but from what I've gathered thus far is that their customer support has gone down the toilet. I'm not holding my breath for them to give me a solution.

One of the things that I had forgot about is clearing out the recent destinations found and favorites. I'll try that tonight and see how it goes.

I had the exact same problem you described. But instead of it being the GPS, it was on a Creative ZEN MP3 player. So at least we know that it's not an uncommon glitch. By the time I contacted Creative for assistance, they told me that my warranty (90 days) has already expired and I would have to pay for them to help me. I ended up going back to Wal-Mart and picked up the exact same MP3 player, swapped it out, and returned my original one as a defective item (Wal-Mart, in turn, will send it back to Creative, so nobody really lose).

Did all this.  Same piece of &*#& Garmin error message.  My house has been here for 12 years and Garmin still has us as a pasture as of 2008.  I am tired of them and a lack of support.

  • ALWORTH1 Jan 26, 2009

The $%#@ garmin tells me it needs 43 more mb space. I've deleted everything possible, but still get the same message. What the he%%?

  • ALWORTH1 Jan 26, 2009

I read through the postings and solved my problem.

    Delete the voices.

    Thanks!!

I have the same problem except it the update gives me a number of regional options east, west (both include Canada) or east +PR, south+PR, NE +PR etc. none give NA or even continental 48. Anyone know what's going on. PS, you can only pick one.

Here's what worked for me. Nuvi 200 brand new w/2008 trying to upgrade to 2009.
After registering and download the map 2009, I started the install. I go to a point where I was told I needed 37MB more room. I went thru windows explorer and looked in the Nuvi. I went into the language folder and moved all of the languages I didn't need to my hard drive. I then went into the HELP folder of the Nuvi and again removed the all of the languages I did not need. I then went back to the install program and hit retry. All good from there. I hope this helps.

I'll tell ya what works. take it back and buy a nuvi 205, already has 2009 maps, and has a "where am I" feature that gives coordinates, nearest address, and nearest intersection in the push of a button. totally worth the extra $50 I spent. I suggest you all do the same.

The files are stored in the GPS unit as read only. That's the problem. Disable the read only option on your garmin. You cannot update read only files.

What i think might be a problem would be that you arent clearing your recycling bin after you delete things. when you delete something it is only put aside until you actually clear it from the bin. hope this helps.

I have just picked up 3 of the Nuvi 200 and only one had the 37mb message. I deleted all lanaguage through the explorer except English and it loaded like a dream. I did remove the unit after deleting the files and rebooted it, powered it off and then reattached it.

I had the same problem. I went in to "My Computer" then into the "Garmin" drive. Go into the "Garmin" folder then into the "Voice" folder. Copy all of the languages into a new folder on your desktop. Now erase the voices that remain in the "Voice" folder EXCEPT THE ONES THAT YOU WILL USE. That should free up enough memory for the update. If you need more memory, you may go into the text folder and move the text languages that you do not use into the new folder on the desk top to free up even more memory.

Navigation map do not show up, next turn etc. Also show message "no map info".

My problem was cured by reformatting the Mini SD card that holds the map data. I had the same problem this week with my Garmin Nuvi 265. After doing an update I received the "No Data Available" message when trying to use my GPS. After trying three days of so-called fixes I remembered that, at least in my case, the map is stored on a Mini SD card. I pulled the card from my Nuvi and popped it into the computer to see what's on there. There are 4 or 5 files associated with the map. I deleted the files and reformated the Mini SD card using the FAT32 setting. I reinistalled the card into my GPS. Prior to connecting the GPS to my PC, I uploaded the latest version of Garmin Express. Once that was loaded I reconnected the GPS and had to re-register the unit. Once that was done the software told me that there was a new update. I ran the update. Lo and behold . . . after about 25 minutes the map was successfully loaded to my Nuvi and it was working as it should.

How do i reset my garmin nuvi 200w satnav it says no detailed maps found how can i reinstall them

Locate the reset button, located on the back of the device, in the lower left corner. Remove the sticker covering the button, and use a straightened paper clip to depress the tab.

To reinstall maps

Connect your Garmin Nuvi to your computer via USB cable. You can only update the maps through connecting to your computer.

Open the "myGarmin" website and sign in with your Garmin account. Make sure to sign in with the account that you've purchased the map updates on.

heres a link to the site;

http://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/login.htm.

Click the "myMaps" tab on the myGamrin dashboard. This will load a list of all of your purchased map upgrades.

Click the drop-down menu in the "Recent Map Purchases" section. Select your Garmin Nuvi from the list of devices.

Install the Garmin Communicator Plugin when prompted. This is required in order for the Garmin website to transfer the map files to your Gamrin software on your computer.

Download and install Garmin Express. This is the program that allows your computer to interact with your Garmin Nuvi.

Register your device in Garmin Express. If you haven't already registered your device, you'll be prompted to when you start Garmin Express. You'll need to register in order to update the maps.

Click the "Updates" tab in Garmin Express. This will show all of the available updates for your Nuvi, including the new map update you just purchased.

Click the "Show Details" option next to your Map Update. Click the "Install" button that appears. You will need to accept the agreement before the update installs.

Wait for the maps to download and install. Once you agree to the terms, the map update will begin downloading to Garmin Express, and will then be transferred to your Nuvi. This will likely take several minutes to complete.

Close Garmin Express and unplug the Nuvi when the update is complete. The Nuvi will reboot and begin installing the updated software on the device. This may take another couple of minutes.

If you weren't automatically prompted to install Garmin Express, you can download it from

When trying to put in an address the Garmin asks me for a country and then does not accept it after typing in the first letter. The other functions appear to be ok.

Hello

you need to update your map

Purchase your map updates (if necessary). You can purchase map updates for your Garmin Nuvi from the Garmin website. There are two basic options: a lifetime purchase or a one-time upgrade. The lifetime purchase gives you access to any new updates for the life of your device, while the one-time upgrade will provide you with the latest current maps, but you'll need to purchase again if you want to upgrade again later.

Make sure to log in with your myGarmin account before purchasing the map upgrade.

Connect your Garmin Nuvi to your computer via USB cable.

Open the "myGarmin" website and sign in with your Garmin account. Make sure to sign in with the account that you've purchased the map updates on.

This will likely take several minutes to complete.

unplug the Nuvi when the update is complete. The Nuvi will reboot and begin installing the updated software on the device. This may take another couple of minutes.

My garmin nuvi 1300 says "no map data available".

This means is that the map file inside your Nuvi 350 is corrupted and the device can not read it anymore. We will need to update your map by plugging it into the computer. First thing you should know, with this problem that you are encountering most likely you will will need to send the unit back to Garmin to reload the map data onto the device, but I am going to try a few things with you to try to get it functioning again ok?

First thing to try is go to this webpage: Garman Map Updater, click on the "Check for updates" It will bring you to a new page, where you might need to install a plug in. It is okay to install the plug in and is nessesary.

If a map update is found you should be able to follow the instructions to update your map. Next I would like you to download "webUpdater" which updates the actual software on your device.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

2009 map update not loading

Fixed. Called Garmin. It seems that version 4.90 FW on the Nuvi 350 (which came shipped on my 350) has a bug where it cannot communicate with the Garmin software either to update maps or update FW. Tech from Garmin e-mailed me a patch that I copied into the Garmin folder on the Nuvi itself, via USB and Windows Explorer. I then rebooted it; the patch installed itself which then allowed the unit to communicate with the map upgrade software and all is well. 2009 map update is now installed and the Nuvi is working fine again. Haven't tried upgrading to newer FW yet; will probably leave well enough alone.
