Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone 3G Using RedSn0w (Windows) [4.2.1]

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 3G on the 4.2.1 firmware using RedSn0w for Windows.

Step One
Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage

Download RedSn0w from here and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the latest 4.2.1 firmware from below and place it in the same folder.

4.2.1 (3G): iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw

Extract the redsn0w executable from the RedSn0w zip file into the same folder.
44902-500.png

Step Two
Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.
44469.jpg

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down Shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.
44470-500.png

Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the 4.2.1 firmware ipsw. Click the Choose button to continue.
44922-500.png

Step Three
Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware open the Pwnage folder on your desktop and launch the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we extracted earlier.
44443.png

Step Four
Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button
44904.png

Step Five
Select the 4.2.1 firmware ipsw we placed in the Pwnage folder on our desktop then click Open.
44905-500.png

Step Six
Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.
44906.png

Step Seven
RedSn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data
44448.png

Step Eight
From this window you can select the jailbreak options you would like.
44908.png

Verbose boot displays detailed information on boot of your device and is generally only needed by developers and advanced users.

Make sure Cydia is selected. For this tutorial we will also select Custom boot logo and Custom recovery logo.

When you click to select each custom logo option a dialog window will appear asking you to select the image. Locate the image you would like to use then press the Open button.
44909-500.png

*Remember the rules for boot logos are: RGB or Grayscale format with Alpha channel and dimension below 320x480. If you would like to use the iClarified ones they can be found here: Boot Logo, Recovery Logo

Notice that RedSn0w can Enable multitasking, Enable homescreen wallpaper, and Enable battery percentage. If you do not need multitasking we would recommend deselecting it as it makes your iPhone 3G run very slow.

If you read the warning above and you would like to update your baseband to the 06.15 iPad version for unlock then check Install iPad Baseband. Click Yes when prompted to confirm your decision.
44912.png

Click the Next button to continue
44913.png

Step Nine
Please plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button
44914.png

Step Ten
RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode. You can find more help with DFU mode here
44915.png

Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
44916.png

Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.
44917.png

Step Eleven
RedSn0w will now downloaded the iPad baseband if needed and your iPhone will reboot
44918.png44919.png

Step Twelve
RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.
44920.png

Step Thirteen
Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button. When your iPhone finishes rebooting (5 minutes or so) it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.
44921.png

NOTES:
If you have problems with RedSn0w on Windows Vista or Windows 7. Right click the executable and set it to run as administrator in Windows XP compatibility mode.

Nokia N900 Firmware Update

Nokia N900 Smartphone Firmware Update v3.2010.02-8 (PR 1.1.1)

39be640.jpg
If your Nokia N900 smartphone is freezing, hanging or acting up I recommend you update the system software / firmware of your device. Erratic behavior can often be corrected by a firmware upgrade.

Here are the instructions for updating your N900 smartphone:

Over the Air (OTA) Update
  1. From the phone's home screen key in *#0000# or go to Device manager
  2. Select Options then Check for updates
  3. Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the update

Update via a Windows PC
  1. Download and install the Nokia Software Updater
  2. Connect your N900 to your PC with the supplied USB Cable
  3. Open the Nokia Software Updater application
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to update your device

Update via a Mac
  1. Download the 770Flasher tool
  2. Download the latest available N900 firmware image
  3. Turn the N900 off
  4. Connect the N900 to your computer via USB cable (with the device turned off)
  5. Run the 770Flasher application
  6. Drag the firmware you downloaded in step 2 to the 770Flasher application (you will get an error regarding a USB device not being found, ignore it)
  7. Turn the phone on
  8. The update process will now begin automatically once the N900 boots
  9. You are safe to disconnect your phone from the computer when you see the normal desktop reappear on the N900 display

Update via a Linux PC
  1. Download and extract the Linux Flasher tool
  2. Download the latest available N900 firmware image
  3. Turn the N900 off
  4. Connect the phone to your computer via USB cable (with the device turned off)
  5. Open a Terminal window and run 'sudo ./flasher-3.5 -F -f -R' (you will get an error regarding a USB device not being found, ignore it)
  6. Turn the phone on
  7. The update process will now begin automatically once the N900 boots
  8. You are safe to disconnect your phone from the computer when you see the normal desktop reappear on the N900 display
I hope that helps.

I want to transfer some films from my laptop to my tablet but the screen shows only one box to click "Mount". Not sure what this means and what I do next. Help!!!

Hi,

In the Mount screen on your Tablet use OK or YES to accept mounting of your Tablet storage. Once done (you may receive confirmation message on the Tablet), wait for a while for the Tablet storage to show up in your "My Computer" (assuming you have a Windows laptop). When you see the new hard disk/partition appear in My Computer, use it like any other disks to copy/move files (your films). Once done, please do remember to use the Tablet Mount screen to Unmount the device and then unplug the Tablet from the laptop (as you'd unplug any other USB device).

We could have helped better had you mentioned your Laptop and Tablet type. Hope this helps. If so, please consider rating this solution.

-regards,
M

My iphone shows only white screen when i try to power up

hi,
try this solution...
1. Put phone into Recovery mode (NOT DFU)

While the phone is off, hold down the Home button and immediatly plug it into your computer. Or else.
2. From a command prompt (Start>Run>"cmd"), change to the directory where you extracted irecovery, and enter irecovery -s followed by:
1. setenv boot-args 2
2. setenv auto-boot false
3. saveenv
4. /exit

Keep this window open for use later on!
3. Run greenpois0n - it will guide you to enter DFU mode, then it will stop on a white screen after you click "Jailbreak".

It should say "Jailbreak Complete!" and NOT "Jailbreak Failed!" next to the progressbar at the bottom.
4. Extract the iBSS from your custom PwnageTool image (firmware.ispw/Firmware /dfu/iBSS.BoardID.RELEASE.dfu) into your irecovery folder.

You can use WinRAR or another ZIP extractor to do this. IPSW files are really just ZIP files!
5. At a command prompt: irecovery -f iBSS

iBSS should be replaced with the name of the iBSS that you just extracted from the pwnagetool image - ie iBSS.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu
6. At a command prompt: irecovery -s
1. setenv boot-args 0
2. saveenv
3. go image decrypt 0x41000000
4. go jump 0x41000040
5. /exit

At the "go jump" point your device should appear to reboot. Whether it goes back to a white screen or shows the Connect to iTunes screen depends on the firmware image used.
7. Restore your PwnageTool cooked or CFW firmware from iTunes.

Showing DEMSBL BOOT Loader for MSM290 on the screen ????

boot loader is like your pc bios set up, it is ready to be flashed, but it's not really quite clear in your problem how you end up with this bootloader mode. if by accident you have pressed some buttons and it is not flashed by any firmware update, try to remove the battery and put it back and switch on, but if you had flashed this by any other firmware, then you had flashed it with wrong firmware version and not suitable for your phone, i suggest to go to your nearest service center and ask their help.
take care.
