Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

My Sony rdr-gx360 dvd recorder generates audio feedback. It is something of a strange situation as this does not occur when playing a disc, only when using a line input whether or not there is a signal coming in or even if there are no inputs hooked into the unit. Even stranger, the feedback stops when I open or close the disc tray or enter the system menu. I have changed out my cables, reset to factor default setting, rerun the setup and nothing seems to help. I am using an HDMI output to a Sony Bravia TV, and the feedback also runs out on the audio line out to my sterio.

I am having exactly the same problem. The noise is not feedback. The noise goes away when the DVD player is powered off and then back on, but starts again after a minute or two. The noise is not present when playing DVDs, but is when line input is selected, even if nothing is connected to the input. The DVD player is connected via HDMI to a Yamaha RX-V661, and the HDMI output from the receiver is connected to a Sony Bravia KDL-XBR4. The noise is sort of a 'squeal' which is more noticeable at low volume levels, and is VERY annoying.

I have the same problem. Simple hookup with just composite video and audio out to a TV. I get the warbling tone when input is set to line 1 or line 2 but not when input is DV or USB and the recorder is otherwise inactive. I have reset settings and tried a large number of setting combinations without being able to stop it. When the line 1 input is changed from composite to S-video the frequency of the warbling tone is lower.

Same problem, i use composite cables out from the DVD RECORDER to my TV.

As soon as i try to connect the audio cables (RCA yellow and red ) a background noise starts.

This is not present while in the RECORDER MENU, or when you just inserted a DVD, and while the DVD is spinning.

When the DVD stops spinning the noise starts again.

Bottom line, squealing on speakers, no apparent solution.

I did have exactly the same problem, then I made it worse. I had changed every logical setting, then some of the others. One of the settings was "dvd 3" and I did not know what it meant, so thought I would try "dvd 1". After I changed it, nothing works. If I try to go to setup, the display just says "dvd 1", and nothing happens. If I try to open the tray, the display says "dvd 1", and nothing happens.

When I try watching my tv there is a sound like a vcr tape rewinding coming out of my speakers. It increases with volume. I called Sony and they acted like they had never heard about this problem. I disconnected the audio input from my satellite receiver and the noise was still there.

Sony wants me to unhook my HDMI cable and hook up to my video and left right audio cable to see it noise is still there. They told me if the noise still persists I would have to send my recorder in for repair. It does not happen when I play a DVD. It stops when I open the disc drawer and reclose for a couple of minutes and then returns.

Try this - You will need remote.
After you have recorded video... (if you eject disk all will be lost)
- Push "Setup"
- Now push "Edit"
On left hand side it should now show "Finalize disk".
I also lost manual and took a few minutes to find.

SOURCE: connecting and recording sony hdtv, rdr-hx780 recorder, sony dream system

I have the same system, except for the TV, I have a project (that part doesn't matter).

From your Sat. go straight to your AV receiver
Again from you Sat. (all of the AV outputs are all live), go out from either 1 or 2 and go to your recorder Line 1 in.
From you AV receiver go to your TV.

All you have to do is hit record and you will record whichever channel you are on. I am having difficulty getting it set up as a PVR, but will figure it out sooner or later.

Hope this helped.

SOURCE: How to Record TV Programs w/o Cable Box/Satellite Receiver?

Ok, I had this issue. And this is what you need. Even if you have a new HDTV, you need a converter box. The new TVs are not made to send out the signal just take it in. Best price I have seen on converter boxes was H.E.B

1. Antenna to converter box
2. Converter box to VCR
3. VCR to T.V

You will have to leave the converter box on when you are recording or leave it on when you leave the house. Also it has to be on the channel you are recording and the TV needs to be on channel 3 or 4. When you program your VCR it needs to be for the time and stuff. But put it to record channel 3 or 4. Which ever you pick for it to record off of. It really is easy. But I do hate that the people that had this great idea made it to where we can only record from one channel. I am going to try to send a diagram that I drew. Not the best artist, but you can tell what I mean. I can not seem to get it to attach the attachment. But you should not have a problem. Good Luck :-)

CAN VIEW THE DVD ON A COMPUTER OR THE DVD RECORDER BUT NOT ON DVDS PLAYERS BOUGHT BEEFORE THE RECORDER

This is quite common of older players. Some only work with DVD+R discs and others with DVD-R discs.
Some player also does not read recordable discs (an early form to try prevent piracy)
Also make sure if recorded on your Recorder, that the disc is finalized before you try to play it on an older player. (See your menu / manual on the recorder for the procedure)
