Dear Meg,
Just try to boot your Laptop in safe mode and then try to make a new user through control panel , if you make a another user then you can log in to your laptop and access the data.

I cant log on because i forgot my password

If you have any other user account with admin rights then only you can change the password..else you have to reinstall the operating system.
If you have a different account with admin accounts.
go to start then in run type in cmd\
you will see a black window.

Then follow the below steps:

To change a user's password at the command prompt, log on as an administrator and type:
net user user_name * /domain When you are prompted to type a password for the user, type the new password, not the existing password. After you type the new password, the system prompts you to retype the password to confirm. The password is now changed.

Alternatively, you can type the following command:
net user user_name new_password
When you do so, the password changes without prompting you again. This command also enables you to change passwords in a batch file.

Non-administrators receive a "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied" error message when they attempt to change the password.

I have a presario v2000 with windows 7 Pro that is password protected my problem is that my password reset disc was thrown away by accident and I need to know how to reset the password without a disc.

Well, need to reset the password on Windows 7 laptop? As you did not have a password reset disk, i think you'd better ask for help with a password recovery tool. As i know, Windows Password Unlocker is well-known to reset the password instantly.

You can view the video guide from youtube to learn more about it.

You need to get your hands on a MRI disc last i heard you can buy them on line it has a feature that will delete your password. If you could find a nice agent at geek squad in the best buy these use MRI disc call up there take unit to them and see if they can run it on you computer real quick.

Admin problem

We can not help you break passwords on computers. This is illegal for us to do in case the machine is stolen. The password prompt you are getting was most likely set by HP and you will have to call them for it.

The computer won't log me on.

Make a backup copy of all your data, including passwords, emails, settings, etc

Find another windows xp computer whether its a friends or another computer you have and get a memory stick or external hard drive ( which you will need ) on the working computer go into

c:\documents and settings

make a copy of the default user folder and copy that over the one on your laptop and try again.

I rebooted my system in 'safe mode' (which allowed me to login as
administrator), moved my files to the public area, and then deleted my
profile (using the Users option in Control Panel).

When I rebooted again, in normal mode, I could login as administrator, and
then moved my files back and rebuilt my profile manually.

The only problem was my forgetting about e-mail messages, which I did not
backup and have been lost permanently. Ug!!!

Forgot the pass word to log on

Hi,

You should actually have 2 accounts. One is called Administrator and appears when you start your operating system in safe mode. It has no password by default so you should still be able to access it.

Restart your computer and keep hitting 'F8' until you're prompted with a menu. Select something along the lines of 'Start Windows In Safe Mode' and Windows will load. Just login to the administrator account and remove the password.
It might also be a good idea to put a password on the admin account and keep it somewhere safe.

Keep in mind though, by removing the password, some of your settings will be reset.

Let me know how you get on.

If this works for you, please rate my FixYa thanks.
