WASHER BROKEN HELP I HAVE A FAMILY OF FIVE NO TIME TO WASTE!

I WAS WASHING CLOTHES WHEN THE WASHER STOPPED I WENT TO TRANSFER FROM WASHER TO DRYER . I FOUND THE WASHER IN THE OFF POSITION ON THE KNOB. I OPENED THE WASHER TO FIND THAT IT WAS STILL FULL OF WATER AND SOAP IT SEEMED TO HAVE JUMPER FROM THE WASH CYCLE STRAIGHT TO THE OFF POSITION SKIPPING EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN. I FINALLY MANAGED TO WIGGLE THE KNOB AROUND TO GET THE WASHER TO SPIN OUT ALL OF THE WATER. PRAYING I WOULDNT HAVE TO DIP IT OUT. BUT THE THING IS I GOT THE WASHER TO SPIN THE WATER OUT IN THE OFF POSITION THIS SEEMS REALLY WEIRD TO ME. WOULD THIS JUST BE A PROBLEM WITH THE TIMER KNOB OR COULD IT RUN DEEPER? I DONT KNOW WHAT PART TO ORDER . MY MODEL NUMBER IS LAT9304AAE AND IT IS FARELY OLD BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS IN THE PAST.PLEASE HELP ME ASAP!!!! PLEASE EMAIL ME AT LILHARVELL@HOTMAIL.COM CANT FIND MY PRODUCT NUMBER BELOW SO I PUT IT ABOVE MAYBE YOU STILL CAN HELP! PLEASE

MY WASHING MACHINE ONLY FILLS WITH WATER, IT WON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE (IT WON'T EMPTY, SPIN OR WASH) ITS A LAT9304AGE & QUITE OLD BUT OTHERWISE GIVEN GOOD SERVICE. IS IT THE SAFETY SWITCH WHEN YOU OPEN THE LID? OR PERHAPS THE TIMER?
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP.

An easy way to diagnose timer problem: If it doesn't rinse or spin on regular wash, try the permanent press cycle. If all works OK, it's the timer.

To peterm622 DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU HAVENT ANY ELECTRICAL EXP.)
i had the same problem yesterday. i removed the face and found a schematic inside and traced wiring.first thing i thought was the lid switch, there is 2 of them, a black one with two prongs and a white micro switch with 3 prongs. i have seen these micro switches (the schematic called it a check switch) go bad many times before in all kinds of applications so i tested continuity and found that it was bad, causing the timer to think lid was open.so as a temp fix i made a jumper and connected the black/black wire connector to the red/red connector and left white wire un hooked and operation is now fine. best i can tell this is a reduntant swich to the main lid switch only. but i will replace soon.my wash cycled completed as normal. these switches are very common and maytags part no. is ap25608 and cost around 10-15 dollars.try replacing this before the timer.

Probably needs a new timer. This is usually more than the machine is worth.

Dryer not working. Clothes wetter than when they went in?

Could be that the RPM is not enough for the spin as the BELT is loose or slipping or if the motor speed is less due to a worn out CAPACITOR.
Try with a longer drying time or manually dry to confirm .
Also check if the inlet valve is working at any time during this cycle to we the clothes, if so there could be output from the control panel which could be a suspect.

Washed clothes with gasoline on them. Put into dryer now washer and dryer smell like gasoline. How do I get it out?

To remove gas (petrol) smell from clothing, soak overnight in baby oil (use like you would downy), then wash in baking soda, then wash with normal detergent. It will rid "gas smell" from an entire basket of clothes. Air Dry ONLY
From ehow website:
Step1
Buy a bottle of baby oil. Since gas is an oil based product it is going to take an oil based product to clean the gas out of your clothing. Baby oil is a great product to use as it shouldn't, in most cases, cause further damage to your clothing.
Step2
Soak your clothes with a bit of laundry detergent, water, and a generous portion of baby oil. Also dab some right on the stain before soaking.
Step3
Swash your clothes in the water for a while and let them sit for about five minutes. Transfer the clothes into your washer, once again remembering not to mix them with any other clothing, and let the cycle finish.
Step4
Wash the clothes. If you have a top load washer, let it partially fill up about 1/4 of the way with water. Put some of the baby oil in the wash with the clothes and swash it around a bit. Once the washer cycle begins, add the detergent and let the cycle finish. Make sure that your gas coated clothes are the only clothes you put in the wash.
Step5
Dry your clothing. Make sure you only AIR DRY on a clothes line these clothes. It could take more than one wash to get all the oil out of your clothing. If you use the dryer after the first, or even the second time, you could risk starting a fire in your dryer.
Step6
Check and see if any smell remains in your clothing. If the smell of gas remains on the clothing repeat the wash with baby oil again until the smell is gone.

Check for obstructions in the pump and discharge hose. Check the motor coupler. Here is a video that should help.

Smell after drying

Try drying your clothes without the dryer sheet and see if the smell is still there. If it is not, then the problem is the dryer sheet.
If it is, then you need to describe the smell better. Different people handle smells differently. What smells musty to you may smell fragrant to others.
You need to determine if the smell you don't like is really a musty smell, or is it a fragrance you don't like. Have some friends (not family members) smell the clothes and verify if what you are smelling is musty or fragrant.

It could also be that even though the clothes smell OK out of the washer, that the detergent you are using is the cause.

Broken washer/dryer

This sounds like a motor control board is faulty. Please load a couple of towels in the machine run it. Watch the machine as it goes through its' cycles.

1. Do the towels tumble when the machine is washing ?
2. When it begins to spin, does it spin one way at a fast pace or does it spin one way and then the other ?

Answering these two questions will help in troubleshooting your problem.
