I actually used a small screwdriver and used plactic shims to keep the case apart on one side while opening the other.

The noise it made whicle opening sounded like I was breaking it, but nothing was hurt. I replaced the capacitors and now it works.

Take something like a credit card and slide it along the seam holding one side apart while trying to pop the clips with the credit card. You will ultimately bend some positioning tabs but nothing critically to the montior.

Is there any seam visible in the plastic case? If so, then it usually needs careful prying apart (jewelers screwdrivers?). Screws, these days, are frequently "decorative".

How do I take the outside case apart of a linkstation LS-WSXL nas to change the HDDs?

I don't believe there are any visible screws so you might have to pry around until you feel the shells separate. Then look in the crack for snap clips made of plastic. Good luck.

How do Iopen the case of an HPvs17x monitor?

The Capacitors on the power board are usually the reason for failure of an LCD. If you open the HP VS17 ( I can provide an exhaustive step by step If I have to) remove the five screws for the power board ( larger of the two boards) and look for an area where there are 4 caps (see pic). Look for exploded, popped up, bulging, or leaking caps and replace with the same or slightly higher tolerances. The one I replaced last night were (2x )1000uf25-50volt and (2x) 470uf25-50volt. Check the rest of the board for similar issues and replace as needed.

Acer AL1717 Back Panel Open Screws

Taking monitors apart can be a pain and tough.
I do quite a few and some are really rough to unsnap !!
Remove the stand and cords.
Remove all rear screws.
Then the hard part is unsnapping the trim from the case without using a crow bar or breaking it.
Start at the bottom first that way if you leave a couple marks they are not so visible. You'll need something thin with a beveled edge to slip between the two plastic parts to release the catches as you rock the trim back and forth from the screen.
(the edge of a pocket knife works- a credit card can have an edge sharpened with a file- sometimes real good fingernails work)

Screen blacking out.

Hi, I used to fix a monitor from Dell. There are 4 screws at the back of rear panel and no screw at front frame. If there is no visible screw, you have to look for "capped" screw holes (little covers that fit flush with the case to hide the screws). If you don't see these neither, this must be a tension fit case. So, face the screen up and look for "rectangular hole" on the side edge (usually at the bottom edge of the screen). This will be a challenge to open without breaking it. You'll need a very thin flat screw driver and wedge it into that narrow rectangular hole. You can use any prybar if you don't have screw driver. It is not too deep. You may stab something important inside and pry it. Once it starts to spread, start sliding it along the seem and you should feel the tension tabs start "popping" open. Continue to work your way around until it's off.

For the metal plate that shields the back of the screen, There are some screws you have to deal with. Those screws are at the power and screen connectors.

Thank you,

Sam.SyncMaster750S control buttons not responding

First, be aware that the flyback xformer can carry a 50,000 volt charge that can arc to anything grounded. Unless you are possitive the chasis is not hot, I'd forgo pulling it apart.

That said, if you turn the monitor on its face and remove the stand. You'll see two screws on the bottom corners of the monitor housing. Remove them. Next, turn the monitor upright with the screen facing you. you'll see two VERY small openings along the top edge of the monitor bezel. Insert a small flat-headed screw driver into each opening, and press gently down. You should hear the locking tabs release. DO NOT pry the case as you will damge it. With the screws out and tabs released, the case will easily break apart.

After you remove the stand, there is a metal plate under it which will come out. Underneath that there is one more screw, (the last one). After that, carefully pry the case apart.

Jammed printer

These clips or latches may be visible from the bottom side. Sometimes a skinny screwdriver is required to release them. Getting some of these rigs apart can be downright frustrating when you don't know where the latches are, and sometimes you get a first latch undone, then when you get a second one, the first one moves back into latched position. If you are successful in getting the thing apart, examine the entire paper path...
