If the new unit only lasted a couple of months, and the engine light goes back on, I think that you should try to have it replaced at the auto parts store under their 90 day warranty policy, if they have that.

Try to go to a reputable source such as Autozone or Advance Auto Parts where they have a more liberal return and refund policy.

Usually, a MAF sensor once replaced shouldn't go bad in such a short time span.

Maybe, check that the voltage to the MAF sensor is not too much for the sensor, causing it to go bad. If that's the case, the computer reference signal voltage may be the culprit.

Good luck on this repair.

If u replaced your maf sensor it shouldnt be foin bad so fast. u must teset youre fuel adaptives and or kam memory kepp alive memory so your computer is not relying on previous parameters or specification levels it has used in the past. it needs to learn the new learning for youre new sensor. only a good quality scan tool can do this. so u will probably have to go to an import shop or dealer. hope this helps

You can buy the Mass Airflow sensor cleaner at most Auto Parts store including Wall-mart. and i would recommend you to get your engine light code read to see what the problem is.
Your car could be running to Rich in fuel and air or to Lean in air and fuel.

1997 tacoma check engine light comes on,but it idels good,no melfuncion.

You would have somebody with a scan tool hook it up to your car and retrieve the codes from the computer. It could be something as minor as a worn gas cap. Or it could be something worse like an o2 sensor, mass airflow sensor, etc. If let go too long it could damage other parts.

I have a Buick lasabre 3800 and on my mass airflow sensor one wire is clean and one lookes burnt . Would that cause my car to act up?

Yes, a dirty or bad mass airflow sensor can cause a car to run badly. I had a 1999 Mazda Protege that had this problem. You can get a can of mass airflow sensor cleaner from an auto parts store. Be careful to hold the can a few inches away from the wires so as not to break anything. Mass Airflow Sensors are fragile. Let it dry before putting it back in the car. If your car has the check engine light on, they can check the code for your as well. Anytime you make a change to any part of the emissions system, its best to disconnect the
battery for a few minutes. If you don't, the computer retains the fault code and it will usually keep
coming back. When all power is lost to the computer, it will do a complete scan when reconnected
and engine started. Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then reconnect and see what happens.

Code 171 and engine light is on

--BANK 1 = DTCs P0171 (lean) and P0172 (rich)

-Check intake air system for leaks, obstructions and damage.
-Check air cleaner element, air cleaner housing for blockage.
-Verify integrity of the PCV system.
-Check for vacuum leaks.

I would try cleaning the Mass Airflow Sensor first. A dirty Mass Airflow Sensor is a common problem for triggering PO 171 & 174 codes.

Good luck and keep me posted.

Check engine light is on

P1135 bank 1 sensor 1 is your air/fuel sensor upstream (between manifold and engine on the passenger side). It cost about $179 at most reputable auto parts store. You'll want to run the engine for two minutes before attempting to take off the nuts also be careful not to touch the manifold as it will be hot (use a 12mm box end wrench and or a pair of needle nose vise grips or lastly a dremel tool to grind them off). unplug the old sensor plug the new in and install. pull your positive cable off your battery for 5 minutes and then re-connect. your check engine light should be gone. allow your truck to idle for a few minutes and then take a drive. good luck!

Mass air meter not reading vane postion

hey rob_andersen,

yes their is a way to replace the mass air flow. Get a can of brake clean or throttle cleaner, throttle cleaner is going to work best. remove the until and spray it down with throttle clean, let it dry for about 15 min. and reinstall it.

Now a little warning for you, IF their is no visual damage to the mass air flow then you can do this successfully. Now the reason why I always replace them instead of spraying them down is because is MOST cases the mass air flow will start acting up again. Sometimes it takes a weeks, sometimes months, sometimes years its hard to say.

But the worst you have to loose, is it doenst work an your out 5 bucks for the can of fluid.
