  • first check the lid switch, most of them click when the lid is opened and closed. it would be best to check it for continuity if possible.
  • if that is ok then
  • it sounds like the belt has broke or fallen off for some reason,( only if you hear the motor running but nothing is happening)
  • take the front panel off with a butter knife. look in the seam between the front panel and the top panel you will see 2 metal clips about where the edges of the lid are.
  • push these in (hard) with the butter knife and this will release the front panel.
  • once the front panel is off you will be able to see the belt under the motor.
  • look at the pulley on the motor and make sure it secure to the motor as this also is the clutch.
  • the belt can be tensioned by loosening the 4 locknuts holding the motor to the frame.
  • let me know if you need more help.

I have a GE toploader washer. The model # is WBSR1060T (VVSRV1040V, & YVSR1040V were also on the washer too) the washer keeps filling to the max setting no mater what the water level is set on, also...

Remove the front panel of the washer by using a putty knife to release the retaining clips, located in the seam between the front panel and the washer's top, about 2 inches in from each side. With an empty wash tub, remove the small hose on the left side of the outer tub and clean out the inside of the hose. Replace the hose. Test.

I have a GE topload washer, I think the model # is WBSP1060T( there were three model # on the washer-VVSRV1040V & YVSR1040V were on there too) any way the water will not stop filling no matter what...

as to the filling issue this would either be the pressure switch or the hose that goes to the pressure switch to the tub has come off if you have any further questions message me back and please remember to rank this opinion it allows me to help others in similar situations Thanks Rick
p.s the starts agititating is normal when the lid closes it is engaging the lid switch

GE washer wont drain or spin, lid switch has been replaced and so has the timer. At the start of cycle it fills and aggitates properly.

If the machine tries to spin for a few seconds and shuts down because the tub is full of water, then - The first thing I would do is check the pump. You may have something blocking the pump or the pump could have failed. Newer models built within the last 10 - 15 years must drain their water down first before they are able to spin.

FWTR445R - won't drain, won't go into high speed spin - Fix This?

If your washer won't drain, check these:

It spins, but doesn't pump
It doesn't spin or pump
It pumps, but the water returns
It spins, but doesn't pump If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out.

To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port.

Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job.

If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.

It doesn't spin or pump If your washer doesn't spin or pump water out but the motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley. If so, you need to replace the pump. To check the pulley, remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it.

It pumps, but the water returns If the water that pumps out of the machine goes back into the machine after the spin cycle, your washer may be siphoning the water from a laundry tub that has a slow drain, back into the washer. The usual remedy for this is to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is something stuck in the drain?) Also, check for these problems:

  • If the drain hose reaches more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub, cut off the excess.

  • If your drain hose is lower than the washer's cabinet, install an air gap/siphon break assembly

Water drains during spin cycle, but tub does not spin and appears to have dropped down. Machine does aggitate.

If you can move the tub by hand laterally - the rear main bearing has likely failed - or the drum rollers are worn.

May be a bad water level switch.
Open the control panel, with a full tub of water bump the water level switch with your hand. If it starts to agitate, replace the water level switch.

Series 70 washer will not aggitate, spin or drain

Even "empty" - there is still water in the tub to keep the seals moist.

Let it thaw completely - or put some hot water in the tub to thaw.

You may already have damaged the coupling/drive belt if it was frozen.
