Is there a light indicator on the car adapter? If so, is it lit?
Have you checked the fuse in the car adapter? Usually the tip will unscrew and there is a glass fuse inside. Have you checked it? You say you have the same problem using the adapter on 3 different cars with the same results, so the problem must be in the car adapter. If the fuse is ok and the light is lit, then the adapter could be bad. Is there any damage to the cord?

Good luck,
- Jim

Can I charge the magellin GPS using a wall charger, plugged into the USB port on the GPS unit if I had rechargeable batteries in it? Or will it blow up? Lol

Yes your magelon already has rechargeable batterys so when in your car you keep it plugeg in all the time.I had a adapter plug with the same voltage output but the positive negitive is backwards. If while pluged into your y fi cord turn on the magelon go to settings you should be able to see the battery leavel if it is stuck on full charge then the y fi cord isnt working but if it is charging from low bar to top bar it will work if not you can buy a wall charger made just for that and again you dont need to replace the batterys unless it wont hold a charge for longe when removed from the car but that is usual for those gps,s not to hold a charge for long when out of the car thats just how it is.

Battery low signal, then shuts off.

Make sure the car charger and adapter is working (has power), is the Green light on? If not, use a 12 volt test light available from any auto parts store for about $4.00 and check to see that the lighter outlet is hot, the light should light up when you probe the centwer of the lighter socket. If the lighter is ok then replace the car charger for the GPS about $50.00 from Ebay.

My sky caddie sg5 wont charge

If you follow these instructions which I think you know how to, it will recharge. If not the rechargeable battery needs to be replaced

To charge the battery, simply follow the steps below:
  1. Gently pull back the rubber cover to gain access to the mini-USB port located at the bottom of the SkyCaddie. Insert the mini-USB connector of the supplied wall charger into the mini-USB slot.
  2. Plug the wall charger into the AC wall outlet. While charging, the charging indicator in the upper left-hand side of the SkyCaddie will show red. The charging indicator will switch to green when fully charged. You may also notice the unit's screen turn on and off periodically.
The battery will charge, even with the SkyCaddie turned off. A full battery charge may take 4 hours. Once fully charged, expect 36 holes of continuous play.

Warning!Always connect the cable to the SkyCaddie first before connecting to AC power or PC USB.

My Magellan 1412 Roadmate will not hold a charge. It must always be plugged in or it shuts off. This makes it very difficult to use.....all ideas welcome.

First and the best solution is to call Magellan customer service and inquire how you can get the internal rechargeable battery replaced in your area. Second, you can use the cable that connects to the computer, and a unit that supplies a 5V from an electrical outlet via a USB like socket. Available at electronic stores like radio shack, source etc. Third one, difficult and clumsy but workable. Get a spare cable like the one that connects to the car 12 volt socket. Cut the end that goes into the car 12V socket. Get a small rechargeable 9v battery (the rectangular one) and the connectors (so that you can disconnect the battery to charge it). Solder the connector to the cut end of the cable, being careful about the polarity. May need assistance of someone with a multimeter and soldering skills.

My Garvin could not be recharged. I replaced the battery. I could use the GPs with the new battery. Once the battery needed to be recharged, I could no longer use the GPS. I plugged it into the wall socket...

The charge circuit has been damaged. It will need to be repaired or replaced. take it to your nearest Garmin dealer.

Unit will not turn on

Check for voltage at the end that plugs into the cradle. If no voltage there, check glass fuse inside end that plugs into car plug. If there is voltage at the cradle end and it still doesn't turn on then it's the cradle. The cradle fails over a short time inside the cradle plug. You can hard solder the cable end to the cradle circuit board, which is a delicate procedure which I have perfected but I am an electronics person. If you want to buy a new cradle it will fix your problem for turning on the gps but I recomend a cable tie on the cradle cable end to stop the strain on the connector so the new cradle connector will last a long time.

Battery will not take charge from wall unit

Remove the battery for several minutes, replace the battery and plug the wall socket in, leave it for several hours. The battery is probably too dead to do anything, and recharges very slowly. If this doesn't work, try a replacement battery, before you send the unit in for repairs.
