What model of printer? It sounds like a model with separate ink and printheads. In this case you will need to install the printheads and the ink supplies. See the setup poster that should have been included with the printer. If the setup poster is not available or you need further information please let us know the printer model.

My pictures all seem to print with a yellowish / orange tint; they also seem brighter than on the screen.

Hy, this is a clasic case. you need to replace the printhead. I know this sounds drastic but this is the only way. BTW, I service and sell Canon products and have seen this many times.

I am getting the message "Ink System has failed. Unable to print. Refer to printer documentation. Error:0xc18a0001." I have tried to shut it down and back on and it's still not working -...

1. Get the unit into the "Support Menu" by following the steps below according with the product,

A. - Press and hold the "left arrow" key.

B. - Press the "Setup" key and release both keys.

Display should say "Enter Special Key Combo"

C. - Press and release the "OK" button

2. Press and release the right arrow button until the display says "System Configuration Menu". (on C8100 use Touch Screen)

3. Press and release the "OK" button.

4. Display should say "Hardware failure status". If not there already, Arrow Key over to "Hardware failure status",

5. Press and release the "OK" button.

6. Display should say "Hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear".

7. Press and release the "OK" Button. Message changes to "Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue".

8. Press and release the "CANCEL" button as many times as necessary, so that, either the "Welcome to Photosmart Express" screen appears, or, the "Ink System Failure" screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE.

9. Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet.

10. Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer

11. Turn the unit on. The printer may display message "USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER" followed by "PRESS OK TO CONTINUE". Press OK.

12. If the printer has already initialized, then go to the next step. If not, the printer will start the "ONE TIME INK INITIALIZATION PROCESS". Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page.

14. If the error is still there, or reoccurs replace the unit.

Error code: 0xc18a0001

Hello,

This error code indicates that you have an 'Ink system failure'. The problem is caused by air the ink feed tubes. If you either use all of the ink down to 0% or you use poorly refilled ink cartridges it can cause the printer to **** air into the feed tubes instead of ink. We have a step by step guide to purge the feed tubes of air on our site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/category/printer-repair/ There are 2 different versions of the procedure find the one for your type printer and follow the guide and within about 10 minutes you will be printing again.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Message states: the following ink cartridges cannot be used after device intialization, and must be replaced

Hi,

Try the following steps to resolve the issue,
1.) Press & hold the * key
2.) press the # key & release both the keys.
3.) Display should say Enter Special Key Combo - Press & release in sequence 1,2 & 3 buttons.
4.) Press and release the right arrow button (or the right arrow icon on touch screen displays) to look for the System Configuration Menu then press OK.
5.) Press and release the right arrow until the Ink Initialization status is displayed.
6.) Press and release the OK button.
7.) Display should say Ink Initialization status: Clear. Press OK to set it.
8.) Press and release the OK button ONCE. (This is very important; do not press the OK button for a second time).
9.) Press the cancel button three times to leave the support menu.
10.) Unplug the unit from the power supply and wait 10 seconds.
11.) Plug in the unit, Follow the on-screen instructions, the unit will initiate the initialization cycle.

Thanks,

I am trying to install an HP photosmart C5180 All-in One and have got "Initialization beginning" on the screen but pressing OK does nothing

Disconnect power cable from the printer's end and wait for some time. Connect it back and wait for initialization to complete. Your issue should be resolved.
