What is my network password

Only you or the administrator of the network will know that. It is stored in the router and must be entered to access the network. We cannot help you on that one. However, in the worst-case scenario, if you cannot remember the password, you can, if you know your router password, go into the wireless setup and create a new password. Remember then that all devices that connect to the network will need to have their passwords changed to remain connected. If you do not have the router password, then you may need to reset the router to factory defaults. This is done with the reset button that is recessed into the device, usually on the bottom or rear. Once that is done, you can use the factory default login information to re-configure the router to the network and create a new wireless password.

Forgotten password for wifi network

Which operating system ??
Your wireless Internet password is the encrypted security pass phrase that was set up when you installed your wireless router.

Your router allows you to access the Internet.
If you have access to more than one wireless network, you may need to remember multiple passwords.

If you happen to forget one password, you have two options: reset your password or locate the current password.

Windows 7 allows you to view the security characters of all your wireless network passwords.
Click the "Wi-Fi" network icon located on the Window's taskbar.

Right-click the name of your network's "SSID" name and select "Properties" from the drop-down menu.

Click the "Security Tab." The network security key is now visible but unreadable.

Click the "Show Characters" check box and this will reveal your wireless password.

Reset My WiFi Password

Wireless networking is a common feature in homes and offices.
Wireless routers provide access to a single Internet source, and wireless passwords ensure that only select users can access the network.

If a password is forgotten or lost, the password can be recovered or reset by accessing the router's Web-based settings menu.

Most wireless routers also have a reset button, which is capable of returning the router to its default settings which includes resetting the password.

Connect to your Wi-Fi or attach your computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable.
Open your Web browser.

Enter the default address of your router.
The default address is listed in your user manual or on the product website.

Linksys and 3Com routers typically use "192.168.1.1" while Netgear routers use "192.168.0.1."
Enter your username and password.

Many routers use "admin" for the username and password by default.
Locate the wireless security settings. Disable the wireless security.

Reset to Factory Defaults

Locate the reset button on your router.
Typically the reset button is a small indented hole on the back of the device.

Insert a long thin object such as a paperclip and hold down the reset button for 30 seconds to revert the router to its factory default settings.

Locate the wireless security settings and add security as necessary.

  1. Choose a laptop or WiFi device that is currently connected to your network. If none of your devices are connected, use an Ethernet cable and connect a computer or laptop directly to your wireless gateway.
  2. Open a web browser and go to the Admin Tool (http://10.0.0.1) - this is the wireless gateway's administration site. The default settings are:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: password (case-sensitive)
      how6361image002.png
    • Note: If you changed your Admin Tool password previously, you will need to use your new login information. If you don't remember your Admin Tool password, you will need to factory reset your wireless gateway. Instructions on how to do this can be found by reviewing the wireless gateway user guides at Wireless Gateway Guides.
  3. On the left navigation menu, select Gateway, then Connection and then Wi-Fi.
    how6361image003.png
  4. Under Private Wi-Fi Network, you'll see the Name (SSID) of your WiFi network. (You may want to write down this information.)
    • Wireless Gateway 1 customers, click EDIT at the right.
    • Wireless Gateway 2 customers, click EDIT for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands to view the settings for each. ?
      how6361image004.png
  5. Check the box next to Show Network Password. The Network Password (Network Key) will be displayed above. (You may want to write down this information.)

    • On this page, you can also edit your wireless network information, including changing your Network Name (SSID) or Password (Network Key). If you make any changes, remember to click SAVE SETTINGS.
  6. Now that you have your Network Name (SSID) and Password (Network Key), you can connect your WiFi devices to your network.
  7. If you have changed any information, use the new information to reconnect all your WiFi devices to your network.

I don't remember my network key,so I cannot use it

Try to connect you computer with an Ethernet cord. If the Internet is working check the default gateway of the computer by typing "ipconfig" on the command prompt. Type the default gateway on the address bar. There you will see the login page for your wireless router. Check the default username and password from the router's manual and enter it. If it accept the user name and password, look for the wireless settings, password should be seen there. If not create a new one. If default user name and password doesn't work reset the router. There should be a reset button or pinhole on the back of the router. Press and hold it for 10seconds. Try again typing the default gateway on the address bar then re enter the default user name and password. If it work your router now do not have a network key (unsecured). You can create a new network key on the router's configuration page.

I can not remember my password

To view or reset a wireless network password:

  1. Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com. Enter the username (admin) and password. By default, the password is password or 1234 unless it has already been changed.
  2. From the left-hand navigation menu of the Router Manager, select Set Up > Wireless Settings.
  3. From the center screen, select your encryption type from under the Security Options heading.
    • If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.
    • If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.
If you cannot log into your router:

Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to reconfigure your router settings.

NOTE: Restoring factory defaults on a device will erase any customizations you have made. You will lose any configurations saved to the device!

I don not remember my password

Are you looking for the wireless password or the
password of the router?
If you want the password of the router, then try
the default password of the router. If the default
password doesn't work then you will need to reset
the router and reconfigure the router.
If you are looking for the wireless network
password, then you will need to open the set up
page of the router. Is there any computer
connected to the router ? If not then you will
need to connect the computer to the router. Or any
other computer which is able to go online using
the router. Check the IP address on that computer.
open the set up page of the router. Set up page of
the router is the page where you will find all the
settings of the router. under the wireless section
you will find the wireless network password
Click here for more information about the routers
and wireless network.

I wish to have an iTouch conenct to my wireless home network. However, I cannot remember the passwor to my network. I use a WRT54G Linksys router. is there a way to find password or reset it?

look underneath the router, sometimes the password is on a sticker underneath. otherwise, plug a computer into the ethernet ports on the router and go into cmd on the computer, type in ipconfig /all and note down the default gateway ip. go into a browser and type http://(gateway ip) should open a page with all the settings of the router including wep/wpa keys. try searching for wifi password finder in google (on a pc) and download software to find missing keys

Linksys WRT54GX4 loses internet connection

Not a problem, you have to consider maybe other devices and or networks competing/interferring with your network. If you know how to enter the Linksys router menu I would 1. change the frequency the router operates on 2. change the channel the router will use 3. change the default password to something else besides the default.

All of the settings for your router out of the box are at default, wonder how many other people are running the same thing in your neighborhood? I always change from the default, you may also be receiving interference from devices using the same freq/channel as your router. Changing these will eliminate those possibilities.

Don't forget to encrypt your network, that is most important.
