Hi,

When you disconnect the battery the radio needs a security code to reactivate it.

You can get this code from a local VW dealer using the VIN of the car (wil be on your registration document for the car) and the serial number of the radio. You will have to remove the radio from the dash to find the serial which is on a label at the back of the radio.

There may be a charge for this from the dealer. However, if you wish you can post up all numbers found on the label of the radio as some but not all of these VW radios can be decoded by serial.

If yours is one of these I will see if anything can be done so let me know.

Please help. Had to replace the battery in my golf and now need the radio code. Model 4685vw Serial 401003313.4.

VW codes require access to the VW Dealer database so are unlikely to be available for free from anywhere on the Internet

Im looking for the raido code for my vw golf,,,, i changed the battery the other day and i need the code for the radio to work ,,, does any 1 no where i could get the code ..... its a gamma radio serial...

If it is a factory radio, you can contact a VW dealer(I think you need the VIN# also)and they will provide the code for free.Write down the code and method because anytime the battery gets disconnected that will happen and it does get disconnected for some problem checkouts other than battery or alternator.
Good luck! Greg

Radio will not work after replacement of battery---what's wrong--it was working before the replacement

radio may need a radio code to re activate. if SAFE appears on the display then this is the problem.you would need to get a code from a VW dealer.

I need a code my vw 2000 golf radio with S/N: VWZ9Z7X8013345

You need to call the dealership to get the unlock code. They are going to need proof of ownership.

How do I unlock a 2005 VW Golf Monsoon Radio thats says SAFE?

I had a 95 that had this problem when I got it. I had to remove the radio, get the numbers off it, and the VIN and call a dealer to get the code for it. Don't let a dealer tell you, you have to bring it in unless you don't know how to remove the radio. When they run the radio serial# and the VIN it will give the code, or show up as an error if they are not a match.

Stock radio will not work

there is a radio code you need but if the radio says only safe look in you manual for the instruction on how to put in code if you do not have the code anywhere then sadly enough the dealer is the only one that can get your code for you.

Vw golf .... alpha...... safe 2

"2 safe" means that your radio was in safe mode, and then the code was improperly entered 2 times. you either need to disconnect your battery and leave it for up to 4 hours (i've been told), or leave your key in the ignition for around an hour.

once it comes out of "2 safe" mode, then it will just say SAFE and give you the numbers 1-0-0-0. You just need to enter the 4 digit code (using your pre-set numbers 1-2-3-4 to change the numbers), then hold the seek > button and your radio should come on.

If you don't have the code, call VW. they'll find your code for free. they did for me. if not they'll charge like $50 or something.
