Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

1 Answer

Wireless internet I had the geek squad set up my wireless almost two years ago. They left me with a document that would help me set up another computer with the wireless connection. The original computer this was done on is no longer working but I still have the document. I just got a laptop. None of the information on the document include the security key or password. How can I find this information? Do I have to set up a new connection, new name, password etc? If so, how? Do I have to hire the Geek Squad again to fix this problem? Is it a problem between XP and Vista? HELP!! This is vital to my business. Becky

Becky, do you still have a computer wired to the router? If so do you know if the Geek's changed the login password to the router itself?

You need to make the change on the wbr-1310 router by setting a WPA2 passphrase. Once complete you will then need to go to your machines and reconnect to the nextwork. During this process it will ask you for the passphrase you set.

Here is the instruction manual you can use to configure your router:

All you have to do is to find the pass-phrase (or password) for your wi-fi. Start your favorite browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla etc) and at the address line type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter. This address is the typical address for linksys routers. At the page with the router's settings that will come up, go at the wireless tab and after this at the wireless security tab. There is an area for pass-phrase, write down at a piece of paper the phrase in this area because this is the pass-phrase you have to provide at the e-reader when it will ask you for a password to connect to the Wi-Fi.

The Geek Squad set a password inside your router for the wireless network,
and set an 'SSID' value for the name of your wireless network.

They should have told you what the password and SSID are.

Secure network

The best thing is to take it to Geek Squad to have them configure it. They have a fee but it will be easiest.

If not,

Open Internet Explorer or Firefox, Type in either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.100.

Select where it says wireless, select WAP 2.
Set a password.
Save.
Restart.

Make sure your computer recognizes the settings to. Go to wireless settings on your computer and change them to the same as above. Let me know if you need further information.

When you get signal strength excellent than at that time goto command prompt by typing cmd in run window and than type the following command at prompt c:\ipconfig / all and this command will show you the status of your all wireless and NIC card ip address. So pls check that wheather u are getting the ip address in the wireless connection or not. and if you are not getting it than
1> first of all connect the wireless router physically by lan cable and than open it in browser by typing ip address of it and than enable the dhcp in it with proper ip address range of you local lan. and than save and restart the router. These Linksys (pronounced "link-sis") routers can be reset and then reconfigured. Inserting the end of a paper clip or pen tip into the small hole marked "Reset" on the back of the router will delete all settings and allow you to re-configure your network. There are other ways to "sniff" for the password, but this enters a gray area which is covered by many other hacking websites.
Alternately, if you have had a Geek Squad Agent set up your internet, you can call 1-800-GEEKSQUAD (800-433-5778) and ask them to look up your records for the password. You should also contact this number to schedule an appointment if you need file and printer-sharing enabled or need help re-establishing your network.
Linksys also has support on their website or by phone.

New Router and Laptop no wirless connection after 4 hrs .

There are a couple of ways to go on this one..first plug into the router with a netwrok cable, NOT via wireless.

If you have just opened the box on the netgear router you would need to configure some basic settings such as the SSID (name of the router) the country the router is in and maybe some type of security settings...often this cannot be done via a wireless connection at first, you must connect your laptop's netowrk port to a touter port on the rear of the Netgear. Open I.E. and navigate to something like http://192.168.0.1 (look on the sticker on the botton of the Netgear) setup the basics then try your wireless link using the settings you programmed.
